SMBMount and backup application
I would like some advice. I am considering the best way to restructure my backup scheme on my NT network. I would like to see if it would be possible/feasible to use cron, smbmount, some SCSI tape drives, and some type of archive tool to backup my NT shares to a RedHat box using Samba. What do all of you do out there? I would envision a situation where each night a script is run by cron that

Mirror functionality in Samba
...ossible to make a parameter like "mirror = yes" and "mirror directory = " to let Samba makes copies? Error messages in log.smb
...n denied) I read the digests and found one solution from Jeremy Allison: upgrade to 1.9.17p5 or to 1.9.18p2. As I said before, we run 1.9.18p3 so upgrading doesn't seem to help. Windows 2000 Terminal Server and SAMBA
Hi, We a re planning to migrate from the Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server to the Windows 2000 version sometime within the next few weeks. From the newsgroups and have gathered that the MULIPLEUSERSONCONNECTION registry option that allowed each connection from the Terminal Server to start a separate smb process has been disabled in the 2000 version. newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. Samba + LDAP + Win2k Server problem
...ws the usernames correct, but when i click ok and reopen the permissions panel, the usernames are different, they have a syntax like DOMAIN\unix_user.1010 This isn't normal behaviour because with an Win2K Professional machine it doesn't show this "error". Yours sincerely, Hilbert Mostert

Rsync speed over network.
Haile the list ;-) I am new to this list and this is my first post so grretings to all and nice to meet you. I am setting up rsync here to do a MASSIVE copy from one machine to the other. I am moving mail servers so I must copy /var/spool/mail/ over to the other machine. I understand and have used locally the copy methods(manpage is good) but I need to ask what will be the fstest possible

many files filelist problem
Hi all I am still busy with my copy of the /var/spool/mail direcroty I gave it this command [root@ais-mail01 root]# time rsync -pogrve ssh /var/spool/mail root@10.0.0.9:/var/spool/mail/ root@10.0.0.9's password: building file list ... As top shows me it has been going 85 mins now building the filelist I recon there are about 80 000 files in that directory totaling 50Gig I was wondering is

speed differences
Hi all I just ran these tests on my network and came up with these results. I found it interesting and thought I would share. In all test the same 2.5 Gig logfile was used for transfer (2719312019 Nov 12 11:42 maillog.back) (2.5G Nov 12 11:42 maillog.back) The transfer was done over two Gigabit nic's one onboard broadcom on IBM X440 server, Other Intel on standard selfbuilt dual P3 880
