data corrupting bug in 2.4.20 ext3, data=journal
In 2.4.20-pre5 an optimisation was made to the ext3 fsync function which can very easily cause file data corruption at unmount time. This was first reported by Nick Piggin on November 29th (one day after 2.4.20 was released, and three months after the bug was merged. Unfortunate timing) This only affects filesystems which were mounted with the `data=journal' option. Or files which are

RDig and AAF playing together
I have a site with two indexes. Index A is created offline by RDig and queried from the web via RDig (specifically, RDig.searcher.search). Index B is managed by AAF with :remote => true. Simple enough. However, I need to query both indexes from RDig. Usually this is ok, as I modified RDig to accept an array of search_paths with an element for index A and index B. However, when Index

[PATCH] /proc/sys/kernel/bootloader_type
This patch exports to userspace the boot loader ID which has been exported by (b)zImage boot loaders since boot protocol version 2. Tested on i386 and x86-64; as far as I know those are the only architectures which use zImage/bzImage format. -hpa Signed-Off-By: H. Peter Anvin <hpa at zytor.com>

Encrypted ASP.Net type viewstate
Does rails have any builtin functionality similar to that of ASP.Net''s encryptable ViewState? For those that don''t know what the ASP.Net viewstate is, it is essentially just a hidden form field with the name __VIEWSTATE, that stores a series of encoded(or encrypted) key/value pairs as it''s value. When the form is submitted the viewstate value is decoded/decrypted on the

is EXT3 data=journal, 2K block size, 2.5 series kernel stable?
A while back, after 2.5.6, there were various changes made to the kernel that resulted in some instability with journaled data on ext3 filesystems, as well as small issues with my 2k block size file systems. Can someone (say, Andrew Morton ;) comment on the stability of the current release with this sort of configuration? If it's not full of known bugs then I will give it another shot, but I don't want to waste time finding out that it's still known to be broken myself. :) Daniel -- The extreme limit of wisdom...

ext3 partition still gets mounted as ext2
I'm using the ext3-patched version of Linux 2.4.13 (the patch from Andrew Morton's UOW site). I compiled both ext3 and ext2 into the kernel. I've also done "tune2fs -j /dev/hda3" and changed /etc/fstab to ext3. However, when I boot up, the filesystem still gets mounted as ext2. I've been trying to figure out why for many days now.. any ideas? Here'...

[PATCH v1 0/6] mm / virtio-mem: support ZONE_MOVABLE
Currently, virtio-mem does not really support ZONE_MOVABLE. While it allows to online fully plugged memory blocks to ZONE_MOVABLE, it does not allow to online partially-plugged memory blocks to ZONE_MOVABLE and will never consider such memory blocks when unplugging memory. This might be surprising for users (especially, if onlining suddenly fails). Let's support partially plugged memory
