I see on my CentOs 4.2 box that in /etc/iproute2 there are the following

modules.conf changes in kernel 2.6
I used to be able to modify my modules.conf file so that certain NIC cards
would load specific drivers.
Has this changed in kernel 2.6
i.e.
<snip /etc/modules.conf>
alias eth0 e100
alias eth1 e1000
</snip>
It used to be that I could reverse this order and eth0 would be the GigE
card.

What are the users here opinions on enteriprise grade opensource software
for doing backups, as an alternative to bakbone or veritas.
We just have basic requirements, i.e backing up nfs servers.

VLAN tagging problems
We are using Centos behind an F5 Bigip load balancer.
The linux box is using bonding and tagged VLAN's
Everything works fine except that when traffic is forwarded from the BigIP
to the linux box on the VLAN where the web server is running the linux box
returns the traffic on the wrong VLAN, It returns traffic on the lowest
ordered VLAN.
ie. here is a tcpdump on my load balancer showing

cgi based tracroute or ping question
I need to install a web based cgi that provides an attractive interface
for doing traceroutes, ping, and possibly mtr.
I know it is not very difficult to write this but does anyone know of a
good package that provides tools like this.
The target audience is upper level management that have never seen a
command line.

Has anyone successfully used centos 4 as an iscsi CLIENT/w CHAP?
...t cannot authenticate with the
target /boggle... On a side note, I know the iscsi slice works because I
can connect to it just fine on Windows XP pro. So go figure :-)

iSCSI experiences
I just tried an iSCSI connection to a NetAPP filer. I first tried using
CentOS-4.2, but the iscsi initiator would not work. Using the command
iscsi-ls would not show anything. Without spending too much time trying to
figure out why, I tried from a CentOS-3 box. Connecting from the CentOS-3
box worked without a problem the first time.
I will try further to get the CentOS-4 box to connect, but

which script will run before and after network started
Is there a script which I can customize which will run before doing
service network stop
and a script which I can run after doing
service network start
I see that /sbin/ifup-local runs after each interface is brought up, but I
cannot figure out which scripts will run after all the interfaces are
brought up.
