Fwd: Good installation documentation on samba4?
...ooting page, it is *far* from complete. At the very
least, the documentation should at a check for a succesful 'kinit' command
to see if the system is going to work.
Maybe I sound a bit angry, but I severely dislike documentation that leaves
you with an unfinished installation. Compare the monstrously sized Samba
3.5 with Samba 4 kind of illustrates the point that not all bases are
covered which is a shame to me.

Hi All,
I have this small doubt. Does backgroundrb have anything to do with
dispatch.fcgi?
some dispatch.fcgi are taking memory as much as 186 MB ....
this is monstrous man...
Also, if i put load rails environment with backgroundrb.yml file to be
false. What will happen? i just loses access to db through ActiveRecord
right?
I can still use normal mysql gem to access db and modify the
tables..correct?
I should be able to create Middleman objects from Rails as usua...

LD_PRELOAD temporary patch
I've used that patch to close the hole. This patch is temporary and doesn't fix real trouble maker - problem in new version in getenv() (after 6.3 it got changed to something monstrous and non-working right if environment has only one variable), hope it will get fixed soon.

It doesn't have to be on the troubleshooting page, because it is on the
DC howto page, did you somehow miss this ?

I am sure that if you follow the Samba wiki page you will end up with a
basic DC, but if it doesn't work for you, just what do you feel is
missing ? as I said,...

CentOS 7, xfs
...an
xfs filesystem on a raw disk. I'm more comfortable with the
partition, though.
b) There was a small but significant difference if, when I created the
filesystem,
if I gave sw and su in the mkfs.xfs command.
I do have a question for the group mind, though: mounting these monstrous
partitions... should I, or, in fact, do I *need* to give, as a mount
option inode64? There will be a *lot* of files on this sucker.... What are
the pros and cons of that?

wine, wineserver, and x.org using 100% of CPU
...d.exe from a w2k server.
It runs fine, without much CPU usage at all.
I had previously tried this with a FreeBSD-current from 12/20/04 and
Wine 20041201. That version had the same CPU usage problem, but the
main screen was actually drawn and the game could be played. The
CPU-usage-caused lag was monstrous, and aiming the mouse was a
nightmare, but it could be done.
I'm at a loss to even figure out how to debug this. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

LVM hatred, was Re: /boot on a separate partition?
...xattr +C at qcow2 create time, only applicable when
the qcow2 is on Btrfs.
# qemu-img create -o nocow=on
But really piles more testing is needed to better understand some
things with Btrfs and VMs. It's all quite complicated what's going on
with these layers. Even though my VM images get monstrous numbers of
fragments if I don't use +C, I haven't yet seen a big performance
penalty as a result when the host and guest are using Btrfs and the
cache is set to unsafe. Now, you might say, that's crazy! It's called
unsafe for a reason! Yes, but I've also viscously killed the VM...

Ok. I will try to do that.
On a related note, does sysvol really need to be in
"/usr/local/samba/var/locks"? This is a monstrous path and there's
already a "/usr/local/samba/var/lock", which is somewhat prone to
confusion... Why not /usr/local/samba/var/sysvol"?
Anyway, I just said goodbye to the old faithful Sernet packages I have
been using for many years. After some tests with the 4.3.x line, I went...

Polycom 301/501 Keymapping
I know how to remap a key on a polycom 301 and 501....
But does anyone know of a list of mapping keys?
For example, the Do Not Disturb on a 301 is #23. I got that one by just
guessing though.
Thanks,

Selectively overriding --cvs-exclude option
...ed in bugzilla so am writing to the list to see if
it's just me.
I have a situation where I would like to upload some auto-generated
files to a website. However, I don't want these files to be included in
my CVS repository so I have added them to a .cvsignore file.
To save from creating a monstrous --exclude regex, I'm using the
--cvs-exclude option. Unfortunately, these files which I want to sync
with my remote website are also excluded.
Looking to the documentation, it seems to me that if I put an --include
option before the --cvs-exclude option, I should be able to tell rsync
to sync...

Third, I''m not crazy about having username/password info in config

Thanks a million in advance to anyone who tackles this monstrous post.

Yes, put in that way it makes perfect sense. Anyway, thanks for your

upgrading from CentOS 7 to 8
...rkstations that
haven't been reinstalled since 2012? And we have upgraded them through
each Fedora release using yum/dnf. The only problem I could remember was
when we found that our initial allocation for the /boot partition turned
out to be too small in recent years, when kernels are becoming
monstrous. We simply adjusted the partitions and rsync'ed the whole root
directory from backup. Still didn't do reinstall. These upgrades were
usually done by volunteer student admins following Fedora's
documentation, and few of them complained.
Same can be said for our Ubuntu laptops. In most c...
