simple lme question
...blocks labelled 1-3) I need to see whether I have a significant block effect and as it will be a random effect, I need to use lme in R. At each watering treatment, I had 5 different combinations of plants. I have shown how I have labelled these in brackets for species A: A in isolation (Aiso) A+A monoculture (Amono) A+B interspecific competition (Amix) .. and the same combinations for species B. I have final biomass data for each of the plants. My first step is to check species A for interspecific competition, for which I will use: Response variable: Amix (continuous - biomass measurement) Random ef...

Ok, I've given up
...uot; on home directories that were mounted from the NetApp filer. Going as vanilla as possible I've managed to both send an email that qmail delivered and fetch the email with my 3 test clients (Eudora, Thunderbird, and Evolution) (I know they are, in a sense, all variations on a theme but MUA monoculture seems to be inevitable these days). So a few questions for the other esteemed system operators here if you know the answer I'd love to hear it. Question 1) Are my user's passwords safe from prying eyes? First, part of this effort was to move off of an APOP infrastructure into something m...

A libc in LLVM
Hello LLVM Developers, Within Google, we have a growing range of needs that existing libc implementations don't quite address. This is pushing us to start working on a new libc implementation. Informal conversations with others within the LLVM community has told us that a libc in LLVM is actually a broader need, and we are increasingly consolidating our toolchains around LLVM. Hence, we

High Number of VMs
Hi, I''m curious about how you guys deal with big virtualization installations. To this date we only dealt with a small number of VM''s (~10)on not too big hardware (2xquad xeons+16GB ram). As I''m the "storage guy" I find it quite convenient to present to the dom0s one LUN per VM that makes live migration possible but without the cluster file system or cLVM

Suggestions for argument for Samba over Windows 2003?
Hi We've recently been through a merger of 2 equal sized Schools, . one School was using Windows 2000 servers and W2K desktops, AD etc . the other was using Samba 2.x servers to control a "domain", with mostly Windows 98 desktops. We then worked out what services were running and deliberated on where to run them in the new merged systems. As it turned out, the decision was to

ZFS Panic after freebsd-update
Hello, I have not had much time to research this problem yet, so please let me know what further information I might be able to provide. This weekend I attempted to upgrade a computer from 8.2-RELEASE-p3 to 8.4 using freebsd-update. After I rebooted to test the new kernel, I got a panic. I had to take a picture of the screen. Here's a condensed version: panic: page fault cpuid = 1 KDB:

Frustrated with RoR environment splintering
Why isnt the RoR community focusing on robust and scalable mod_perl style of Apache environment, rather then splintering all over the place with lighthttp, mongrel, WEBrick, SCGI, fcgi, etc??? Its frustrating as someone who is trying to migrate to RoR. Its very unlikely I would ever get a contract to work on any webserver except Apache, so it would seem logicaly to focus all our efforts to

A libc in LLVM

You’re talking about where you want to start with an LLVM libc. Many in the community (myself included) want to understand where we’ll get with this libc. At
