Vorbis encoding at half speed
I’m using a Windows development component which uses vorbis.dll, ogg.dll, vorbisenc.dll for encoding an Ogg Vorbis file. It's all working well except for one user occasionally has a 1 hour file appear as 2 hours and it plays at half speed. It is being converted from stereo to mono before feeding the encoder with a channels=1 configuration. Here is an example file which will be available for

Suitability of speex for use with noisy, non-voice source material?
...nce my resumed search for a codec. In my initial searching I found speex, but before I try to engineer the solution, I'd like to get any advice on use of speex in with the expected source material, which is likely to be noisy (static and stuff mixed in with the source audio). The source audio (monaural) will be pre-filtered to fit with 300-3000 Hz passband (can be slightly narrower if need be), and may not always be a single voice (that is, may be>1 voices interfering with the audio passband, or even non-voice such as tones and other stuff that would appear in the passband of the receiver.)...

Vorbis encoding at half speed
Hello Ross, The attachment appears at least to me as a valid monaural Vorbis audio. It says in its header that there is only one audio channel, no stereo mapping is in use, and there is only one audio vector per frame. Actually it does not sound well, in a way that makes me wonder if two channels are unexpectedly merged into one... (thus it might sound like ha...

Headset Recommendation
Does anyone have a recommendation for a headset that plugs into the Mic/Line-out port on a PC? Ideally something like the Plantronics SupraPlus. I'd prefer Monaural instead of stereo, and cheap in price but not in quality. Thanks for any suggestions... ...the text for this release: * Fixed repaint of last column in master track list. * Turned radio buttons into combo box in config dialog, used Qt Designer to make it instead of hand-coding. * Now plays sample rates other than 44100 and channel count other than 2, so you can play 22050Hz monaural recordings if you're that way inclined. Ok, the only important new feature is that you can play tracks that aren't 44100 stereo. I recorded one track to 22050 mono with oggenc and it has nasty clipping or something going on, so I don't know how useful this is, but hey, it had...

USB headsets?
Hi, What USB headset would you recomend? We have some laptop soundcards that are really bad and I would be glad if you could share your experiences when changing to a USB headset instead of using the built in soundcard in your computer. Thanks! Regards, Jan

(possibly) new use for asterisk
Has anyone ever thought configuring asterisk on a pair of pc's to act as remote broadcast terminals for the broadcast radio industry? Seems like a stripped down asterisk on a laptop with a PCMCIA ISDN modem connecting to another asterisk instance on a PC at a radio station would work nicely. Use one of the higher quality codecs, interface the remote mixer to the sound card on the

Compress interleaved multi-channels pcm/wav with opus
Hello everyone, I tried to compress audio with opus-1.3.1/src/opus_demo.c recently, which works fine on mono and stereo data . Now I want to compress interleaved 7 channels pcm/wav ( recorded by Microphone array :6mic+ 1reference signal ) with opus, But I have not found an interface that compress multi-channels pcm/wav. 1、Is there a multi-channel compression interface can be used in my case? If

About lossless and point stereo
...for different frequency bands, depending on the values of the adj_stereo structure. Looking at the precomputed_couple_point function in psy.c, the last two statements: *mag = premag * floormag; *ang = 0.f; eem to imply the angle (diffuse sounds) is set to zero. So point stereo is essentially monaural, since angle=A-B so if angle is 0, A=B? Hence Vorbis "joint" stereo is essentially a mix of lossless stereo and mono, right? It seems like a very strange way of coupling as I would have expected point stereo to at least have a heavily quantised angle.....that is, not many bits go...

Then recently I made another recording of spoken material from a different BBC channel, of an old (undoubtedly mono) program, that I chose to encode both as stereo (looking at the raw audio samples, it was not a monaural broadcast) and downmix to mono. Listening to the resulting files I noticed the same effect in the compressed stereo file, that was absent in the downmixed file, so now I hypothesize that this effect is due to some phase variation between the two channels, or whatever it is that is causing the di...
