nscd
...M$) about that time... but... we got this Thurs. Friday, I went to look, lunchtime, at a story, and back to the same. Later, and I think I was playing around, it came back. Just now, over lunch, it failed... until I restarted nscd. My manager tells me it's caching... but it seems to be caching momentary failures. So: has anyone else seen oddness that might be related to nscd? mark

Question about Tripp-Lite UPS life span
...LADC12-35J Deep Cycle AGM SLA 12V 35AH; the last set lasted 7 years. Tripp-Lite considers these batteries to be non-user replaceable, likely because they're bolt on and opening the case is a bit of a chore. It's a well built unit though. The UPS has a system enable switch on the back and a momentary on/off switch on the front. I plugged it in to the wall, turned the enable switch on, and then pressed the front on/off switch. Nothing. I also tried holding the momentary switch in for 5 and 10 seconds. Nothing from pressing the alarm silence switch or holding both switches in. Breaker in back has...

Office 365, Windows 10 and Samba AD
...ecause the bar > really just has been raised unfortunately. There really isn't any > trivial fix, besides uninstalling the KB2992611 but I wouldn't really > recommend it as it probably exposes you to a serious security > vulnerability. Thanks for pointing this out. To keep the momentary changes as small as possible I consider upgrading to samba-4.x at first, without touching the NT4-style domain for now. gentoo linux provides samba-4.2.9 as unstable package, I assume this would run OK as well for our rather simple use case. Would the move to 4.2.9 help around that specific bug as...

Keeping machines online
I am using centos 5.1. I want to keep my machines always powered on. Some machines (important ones) are UPS'd. I have also set in the BIOS (gigabyte motherboard) the power options that after power loss should do a full on. The other day we had just a momentary power drop. the UPS machines had no issue of course with that. However, the other machines did not come back on. Is there anything additional in Centos that can help ensure this machines turn back on. Perhaps something in acpi stuff? Does that need setup? Thanks for the discussion. Jerry

Random Intermittent Noise for SIP to FX0 calls plus echo
...PSTN caller) of the conversation may hear a few short (half second) breaks in the conversation. The characteristics of the interference in the SIP phone user is some in-band MF tones which may start out faint and get louder which are broken up them selves to make a cracking noise. There may be some momentary echo of my voice when this happens also. This may last for about 3 seconds and then the conversation is clear. We don't get this when using Analog phones on an FXS port nor for SIP to SIP conversations. Has anyone else experienced this and resolved it? Thanks, Mike Meyer

[LLVMdev] Web Server Restart
...tarting the LLVM web server in 15 minutes (i.e., at 10 am Central Time). During the restart, all web and SVN services will be unavailable. Please don't commit to the SVN repository while the server is down. I'm adding a new virtual host configuration, so the restart should cause only momentary loss of service. I'll send email once services are back up. Sorry for any inconvenience. -- John T.

UPS commands
...ff, so hitting the power button on the PC won?t do anything. I?m not aware of buttons on a UPS that tells it to turn its outlet back on, but then my own UPSes have always been fairly dumb power units. I meant that a human could power the UPS back on. Nearly all of the UPSes I have worked on have momentary power buttons (either toggle on/off, or a pair of on and off buttons). -- Charles Lepple clepple at gmail -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... UPS commands
Ok, so the reason I keep asking about this is in case I have to actually implement this in our UPS. I meant that a human could power the UPS back on. Nearly all of the UPSes I have worked on have momentary power buttons (either toggle on/off, or a pair of on and off buttons). So, when a power-off-stay-off comes through, then the UPS *itself* shuts down as well, and essentially goes into a soft-off that won't respond to resumed AC power from the wall outlet? And when the UPS *does* get powered b...

wasted bits and audio drop-outs
I hear momentary audio drop-outs (silences) in some flacs I have encoded. These occur at the same time as "wasted bits" messages in my mplayer output. [flac @ 0x860fb00]coding type: constant [flac @ 0x860fb00]1 wasted bits [flac @ 0x860fb00]coding type: constant [flac @ 0x860fb00]6 wasted bits Is there...

Dovecot I/O scheduling (all versions)
I have experienced this on all versions of Dovecot that I?ve used (1.0 - 1.1b6) using IMAP (it?s difficult to test if it?s also there with POP3). What I see is that if there is a peak in disk usage at the time of a specific request that requests stalls. The saturation of disk I/O is momentary but when it?s done (maybe after one or two seconds) Dovecot still waits for its I/O operation instead of continuing as soon as resources are available. Now, I would expect Dovecot to only wait until there are resources available and not stall for at long time (sometimes it stalls for like 10 secon...

Successful compile of Wine
...SOL.EXE or FREECELL.EXE and they complain about their missing CARDS.DLL. I bring the CARDS.DLL across from the w2k machine and they still complain and don't run. And lastly, I am trying to run codewright (that of course is more ambitious then the games) and I can execute CW32.EXE and there is a momentary flash of a window trying to be instantiated and then I am back to my bash shell with no errors on the shell. I tried adding CWbasic.dll from the w2k machine to no avail. Any suggestions will as always, be gratefully appreciated. Charles

--backup leaves window where file doesn't exist.
When using --backup, the sequence (as monitored by strace) is: rename("/path/to/<file>", "<backup-dir>/<file><backup-suffix>") rename("/path/to/.<file>.xxxxxx", "/path/to/<file>") This, of course, leaves a momentary window wherein <file> can't be found. Might it be possible to replace the first rename() with link() instead? This, of course, could only be done when the backup directory is on the same volume. -- Dave Mielke | 2213 Fox Crescent | I believe that the Bible is the Phone: 1-613...

Nabble? Was Re: function to replace values doesn't work on vectors
...t;> function.123 <- function(x) >> ? ? { >> ? ? ? x1 <- ifelse(x == 1 | x == 3, return(x) ,return(2)) >> ? ? ? return(x1) >> ? ? } >> This function? Not in the original email as I received it, although it showed up in Berend's reply. I hope that it was a momentary glitch; greater disagreement between Nabble and the email list will cause all sorts of fun. If the interface, whatever it is, starts stripping out code? I'll have to quit answering Nabble queries entirely. Sarah -- Sarah Goslee http://www.functionaldiversity.org

Unregistered ports on SPAxxxx
...credential for each port, but sometimes, only a few of the ports register. So, the device will be running fine for a while, then suddenly one or more of the ports will become Unreachable. These ports will stay unreachable until the device is power cycled. I'm presuming that there was a momentary interruption in connectivity that caused the registrations to fail/timeout. But the ports should have become Reachable by the time the registration period elapses. But they don't. Any ideas? Mike.

UPS commands
I'm probably spending WAY too much time on this question, but.... If the goal is just to perform a clean shutdown, and the power might cycle a few more times before coming back completely, then shutdown.stayoff might make more sense. DTMF in the middle of a call
I found this old post using a Google search for DTMF tones heard during an Asterisk call. The calling party does not hear them, only the called party. We are experiencing this sporadic DTMF "beep" followed by a momentary silence on a random number of our calls. This happens on trunk to SIP and SIP to SIP calls, so it's not PRI related. Since this thread is dated 2003, and the reply posted stated there were patches available, I would think that this issue should have been fixed in the newest releases of Asteri...

Smart-UPS staying in OB after power return
...Ds look normal; I think I read the on-line LED flashes during a self-test initiated through the 'on/test' button. - The 'on/test' button does not initiate a self-test, or otherwise change the pattern of front-panel LEDs. - While on utility power, the 'off' button acts as a momentary switch, and the loads are powered down only as long as the button is being pressed; also, 'upscmd -u admin -p $passwd s0-ups0 load.off' (twice, 5 secs apart) does not shut down the loads. While on battery power, 'upscmd [...] load.off' works as expected. These things make me think...
