basic question on how to compile 2.4 xen
Hi
Can someone help me figure out a way to compile a 2.4 kernel in a 2.6
system. Basically it keeps failing because it needs the genksyms
package, which is provided in the modutils package from redhat, but
obviously this isn''t presetn on the 2.6 kernel.
I was wondering how the xen maintainers go about compiling their 2.4
kernel and 2.6 kernel. Do you do it on different systems then package
it together?
Thanks
Shaz

Driver versions for RHEL 3 kernels
I'm preparing a pair of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 servers on which
to test RAC. Currently they are running the 2.4.21-4.0.2 kernel. I saw
that the 1.0.9-9 OCFS binaries are tied to the 4.0.1 kernel, and confirmed
that myself. The 1.0.9-12 packages are dated a few days later and don't
refer to a specific kernel version, so I assumed they would work with 4.0.2.
However, when I try to

[Bug 51] Supplying more than 8 ports to connection tracking triggers unusual system behavior
...(max 8)
The ip_conntrack_irc code tells the core kernel module system that it supports a
'ports' parameter with up to eight integer values. Everything else is dealt
with by the module loader.
Can you plase indicate what exact version of the linux kernel you are using, and
what version of modutils (rpm -q modutils), and what kind of output/error
messages you receive if you try to manually load ip_conntrack_irc with more than
8 ports?

Kernel 2.4 in centos 4.3
Hi,
I?m using centos in 4 servers that work as gateway for intranets
where i work. I built a particular kernel for my needs but this kernel
is 2.4.31. So i neeed to boot this kernel in centos 4.3 and centos
4.2. Can anyone help with that? I know the problem is mainly in
modutils because modules cannot be loaded when kernel is loaded. Any
help is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

2.6 kernel on CentOS-3.3
...if this howto eats your machine ;)
It works for me and the src.rpm are provided.
</include>
<blurb>
In order to have a 2.6 kernel on CentOS-3, one need to
upgrade a few packages: at least module-init-tools, sysstat, initscripts...
But in order to keep a 2.4 kernel happy, you must keep modutils around.
I have repacked both modutils AND module-init-tools in the
same package and it is providing both.
mkinitrd needs to copy both insmod(module-init-tools) and insmod.old
(modutils) into your initrd, since you can use either 2.4 or 2.6 kernel.
the initscripts_26 is trying to get the initial...

Firefox fails to authenticate .mil sites with New DoD CAC
...s did at least work and coolkey
eventually caught up.
One thing is for sure... the cackey RPM from forge.mil is not a drop-in
replacement for coolkey. The cackey RPM only installs the libraries
themselves, nothing else. It doesn't even register them in the nss db I
had to do that manually with modutil. I must be missing something...
Without direct access to forge.mil it's difficult to troubleshoot
cackey. For some silly reason they still require CAC authentication to
get the CAC software and drivers and access the forums, etc.

[PATCH] use 2.6 module syscalls in klibc
I had a klibc build failure (on s390) because of include/sys/module.h
and noticed that it still has the old system call interface for 2.4
style modutils. Is there any reason to keep that in klibc?
This patch fixes the build problem by removing the old file and also
makes it possible to build module-init-tools (after some tweaking
there) against klibc.

2.4.21-4.0.1 & OCFS 1.0.9-9
Does anyone know if the issues with 4.0.1 have been resolved? (insmod
requiring the -f option) I have not been able to get this to work (even
with the -f), hence I'm still running 2.4.21-4.
TIA!

missing /dev/pts and /dev/shm on domU
Hello!
I set up an Xen-3.0.2-3 on an Ubuntu 6.06 as dom0.
Then I installed a paravirtualized Scientific Linux 3 linux
(RHEL3/centos3 clone) as domU. I replaced the modutils.
The systems boot and I can login on console. But I can''t login
via ssh, because the /dev directory seems to be
replaced by a udev process in the initrd.
In detail the folder /dev/pts and /dev/shm are missing and /dev/null
get the wrong permissions. If I create the folder and set the...

yes Manish figured out that it's a bug in rhel3 insmod. we asked red hat
to update modutils
in the meantime you could change load_ocfs to do a insmod -f
that shoudl work, the actual ABI has not changed it's just insmod that
fails the check
look for INSMOD="$INSMOD $MODULE"
and just change it to
INSMOD="$INSMOD -f $MODULE"

Ok, Im an idiot. Can't remount the ext3 filesystem because I deleted the /.jounral file...
Hello everyone,
Ok, I admit it - I'm an idiot. But it seemed the right thing to do at
the time.... I'm running RH 6.2 with a 2.2.19ext3 (ext3 0.0.7).
I wanted to try out the new 2.4 kernel line, so I upgraded modutils, gcc
and few other things.. Compiled the kernel (did NOT patch it to ext3)
and installed it and rebooted. Well, it didn't understand ext3 fs.. Ok...
Boot back into the old 2.2.19ext3 in single user mode and edit fstab
back to ext2, remounted the drives in ro and rebooted (so they were
