issue with openssh-server running in a libvirt based centos virtual machine
...umn, since the windows netstat does not have it. Surprise, the ssh connection works like a charm. I went back to the windows box to try again with Putty, and I have the same issue. So could this be because of windows? I cannot suspect Putty, since I tried this with another windows based ssh client (MobaXterm), and the same issue happens.

OT: configuring xming to know putty's not in a std. location
Is there some way to do this? I've got the current putty (actually, putty-cac), pageant, and plink in my user's Downlods directory - neither he nor I have admin authority on his laptop, and Desktop support's teleworking today - but I can't seem to find a way to configure xming to look there for putty. Or is it start putty, *then* start xming? mark

virt-manager
Try giving the VM a Spice display, instead of VNC, see if that helps. Also, on Windows try Mobaxterm SSH client, it comes with X server built-in, perhaps it behaves less crappy. ...machine). Start putty with X11 forwarding turned on and connect. You should now be able to start X programs. The important thing is that the server needs to be started before initiating the connection so that a display can be assigned. Can I suggest an alternative though. I've started using MobaXterm recently and I'm quite impressed: X11 server, SSH/putty client built in, GL capable etc. Home use is free. P.

virt-manager
so... I've been tinkering with KVM again. my desktop is windows, the linux server is remote, so I have a ssh X tunnel running, and XMing running locally, and launch virt-manager. opens fine, shows the VM I created some time ago. I select that VM (which is running centos 6), and 'open', a window opens for a few seconds, then blam, virt-manager exits before I can click on

Still considering backup utilities
I hear that backuppc does *not* have a native *Doze client. On the other hand, I know amanda's been around a long time, and it does. Opinions on amanda, folks? mark
