Odd number of samples in a stereo wave file
...t; chunks as far as chunk Id's and lengths where concerned and the overall file length is correct. The only issue is that the "data" chunk started and ended with a sample from the same channel. I have read through some of the documentation provided at http://www.ambisonia.com/Members/mleese/file-formats/ and especially the McGill university WAVE specification and the Microsoft/IBM documentation and can't find anywhere that it says that there needs to be an even number of samples, just that they need to be interleaved. I may have missed something along the way in which case the si...

--keep-foreign-metadata question
...long term we could register an ID for a METADATA_BLOCK_APPLICATION. If you are interested in the ".amb" spec then the non-standard GUIDs are described at: http://dream.cs.bath.ac.uk/researchdev/wave-ex/bformat.html and the rest of the description is at: http://www.ambisonia.com/Members/mleese/file-format-for-b-format/ There are currently over 100 pieces in the ".amb" format available for free download. Most are full-sphere surround sound. Visit http://www.ambisonia.com/ Regards, Martin -- Martin J Leese E-mail: martin.leese@stanfordalumni.org Web: http://members.tripod.com...

--keep-foreign-metadata question
Not sure if this belongs here or in flac-dev. I am subscribed to both, so flop it over if fits better over there. Looking at the Changelog for FLAC 1.2.1 (17-Sep-2007), it says: "With the new --keep-foreign-metadata in flac, non-audio RIFF and AIFF chunks can be stored in FLAC files and recreated when decoding." Where can I find more detail on what is a

WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE_CHANNEL_MASK is not described
...sk of zero. Clearly, the channel mask does not always implicitly contain the number of channels. Not every FLAC or WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE file will contain speaker feeds. The FLAC specification needs to allow for this. The Microsoft specification can be viewed at: http://www.ambisonia.com/Members/mleese/file-formats/multichaud.pdf/view The underlying problem is that FLAC has got itself into a mess over channel assignments. The number of channels is specified in the METADATA_BLOCK_STREAMINFO, but using only three bits. (Three bits is insufficient for the channel assignment, even though this inf...

Mapping = 1 Ambisonic Vorbis flag
Where can I find the Header file or whatever which specifies the "Mapping" flag. In feb - apr 2007, there was a lot of discussion about Ambisonics and Monty kindly stated that Mapping = 1 ; Denotes and Ambisonic file as opposed to = 0 which is 1 speaker/ 1 channel Has this been written explicitly into the standard? Which standard should I be looking at?

5.1 surround channel coupling
It obviously would be nice to have such a mode available, for e.g. DVD audio compression. Apparently, the list doesn''t tell me too much about it. My questions are: 1. What is the current status of the 5.1 channel coupling in Vorbis? 2. If I''ll be interested in participation in its development, what is the recommended reading? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML
