Prioritizing forwarded traffic over locally generated traffic
...tion. I''ve searched and searched on Google and I just end up confusing myself even more, so I thought I''d post my question to this list and see whether someone can help me! Basically, I am running a Linux box as a NAT router on my home network (machine name marvin). I want to use mldonkey on the router box for P2P downloads. What I wish to do, is to have any traffic that originates on the internal LAN take priority over traffic that is generated from mldonkey on marvin. I don''t wish to restrict the maximum bandwidth for the P2P downloads on a permanent basis if I can help i...

mldonkey/edonkey - servers not connected
Hi, I''m running mldonkey on same box as shorewall. I follow this http://mldonkey.sourceforge.net/ShorewallConfiguration to open ports for edonkey protocol I add in /etc/shorewall/rules: # eDonkey 2000 ACCEPT net $FW tcp 4662 ACCEPT net $FW udp 4666 but I could not connect to any edonkey server. I check logs and noti...

again: HTB - I can''t stand it any longer HELP ME
...idea what was the reason :-(. I am sure it was set to ''plain-text'', but I have changed email anyway... ----------------------------------------------- hi there! For weeks I am trying to set my network in such a way: server (linux) is connected through ppp0 to internet. There is MLDonkey running on that and it is also Internet default gateway for my LAN. I want as fast access to the Internet as there would be no MLDonkey running - I mean: -- I want MLDonkey to be using ONLY IDLE BANDWIDTH -- After reading HTB manual I configured it in this way: --------------------------- tc qdi...

When there is now other network activity the band is totally used by mldonkey, but when something else happens, it should force out mldonkey traffic. Now, let us look at the picture: At bout 00:50 I''ve started an upload via rsync, which en...

imap problems
Hi, I''m really new to traffic shaping and try to implement the wshaper.htb script. I have a linux box that serves as vdr, mldonkey, samba, apache and mailserver (imap), connected to my LAN with 100mbit. I''m connected to the inet via adsl with a hardware router/firewall, got 384k downlink 64k uplink. When I have mldonkey running, imap (via Outlook) gets *very* slow (mails with attachments take 5-10mins to show), and ev...

Help with HTB rules (experiencing latency)
Hello, I''m using these rules (attached) to control traffic going out from ip 192.168.0.100 which is acting as a p2p server, but when I have these rules on and mldonkey running I experience some latency in web pages, which Iwould like to eliminate. I''ve read that this is where the burst and cburst (even quantum) parameters are useful, but I still can''t understand crearly how to set them (there are few examples using up rates of ~25kb/s), I ho...

centos 5 as p2p client
Hello, I'm running centos5. I'm wanting this machine only, none of my other ones, to participate in p2p file sharing, bittorrent, edonkey, maybe other networks. Does anyone have a howto or step by step guide for this? I've installed bittorrent and mldonkey clients, but neither is working, i'm assuming gateway firewall issue, but i've enabled the correct ports, 6881 through 6999 redirecting to the centos box. I've not made any additions to the centos5 firewall. I've got some audio available on bittorrent network i'd like to...

Help needed with HTB
...nce again: I have a computer with ip 192.168.0.100 which is acting as a p2p server, so I want to shape traffic coming out from that ip, I have a linux box acting as a router with two NICs, server ip is 192.168.0.1. So I hope you can take a look at it and tell me why is it that everytime I have mldonkey or any other p2p software running on that computer I experience a lot of latency in my whole network with http traffic, maybe someone can help me out specify the burst and cburst parameters... and maybe even the quantum parameter, and some little explanation on it since I haven''t been...

emule047c too many files
I execute emule 0.47c (because Amule and mldonkey doesn't have protocol ofuscation support) but I have some problems: 1.- I import the incoming + temp directories from amule, 250 downloads inside => error too many open files. To solve this, I try to import 20 files, next 20 files more, next 20 files more, in batch process. 2.- But when I...

New L7-Filter patterns for Kademlia / eMule?
I had been using L7-Filter[1] successfully for edonkey/eMule traffic until recently. I upgraded to the latest release of mldonkey, 2.5.28a, which implements eMule compatibility, and with support for Kademlia[2] enabled, network latency increases greatly. [1] http://l7-filter.sourceforge.net/ [2] http://www.infoanarchy.org/wiki/wiki.pl?Kademlia Has anyone created a new pattern match for L7-Filter for this protocol? I fet...

NEWBIE: DNAT Prob
Hi gang, I''ve got a problem with shorewall, it keeps dropping packets when it should be DNATing them. I want all connections on a tcp port 4662 to be forwarded to a machine on my network (192.168.0.5) - the port is used for mldonkey (P2P app). It seems to be partially working - loads of packets are being DNAT''ed but some are not - I cant figure out why! The firewall (192.168.0.1) is running RH9 with kernel 2.4.20-8, iptables v1.2.7a and shorewall version 1.4.6a Line in /etc/shorewall/rules... DNAT net...

Passive FTP server
Hello everyone, I run a Pure-FTP server on my DMZ. I can specify with Pure-ftp what ports will be used for clients when they connect with passive mode. I entered 50000 50400, so I have enough for 200 users at the same time. Then the pure-ftp website tells me to open up those ports on the firewall. How do I do this? In my rules file is now something like: ACCEPT net dmz:10.0.0.2 tcp

No access to root-level of shares on NT4 SP6 with Samba 2.2.2 on FBSD-4.7
Hi all, I've got a strange problem with my German NT4 SP6 and my FreebSD-4.7 Samba 2.2.2 server running as a PDC. I connect to several shares on the Samba-machine by linking them to drive letters. I can browse them but I can not copy anything to the root-level of the share, neither directories nor files. The error message is on the NT4-box is: BLA kann nicht kopiert werden: Der Zugriff wurde

Help with traffic control (HTB ESFQ RED)
...hs now, and I''ve never been able to find an answer to it. I''ll try to explain as quick as possible: I have a server that controlls my home network, it provides internet to them also (NAT) and I would like to provide QoS by shaping traffic. I have a p2p server here (running mldonkey), since only that machine is serving p2p and anyone can connect to it to download linux distros ( :) ) my attemp here was to limit bandwidth for that machine. I''ve partially done this, I''ve written some HTB rules and I''ve nested ESFQ leafs within htb classes. At first...

Extending Wondershaper a bit
...d used the Wondershaper 1.1a. It works! I see three classes, with traffic in all three of them. But it only diferentiates between types of traffic, and I would like it to diferentiate based on the source of the packets. I would like to have my DMZ and LOC a high priority, and a low priority for the mldonkey program on the firewall itself, or for the users on the wlan. So I tried this: $DEV=eth1 tc qdisc add dev $DEV root handle 1: htb default 40 tc class add dev $DEV parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 480kbit burst 6k tc class add dev $DEV parent 1:1 classid 1:10 htb rate 80kbit ceil 480kbit burst 6k tc...

what is faster: wine20041019 or 0.9
I have an old Pentium 233 MHz with 256 MB RAM that has Debian and wine20041019 installed. As this machine runs "not so fast" I'm not sure if I should upgrade to 0.9. If one of you could tell me that 0.9 runs a little bit faster than 20041019 this would ease my decision. ;-) Markus Winhard
