adding xen support to grub2 got segfault running grub2-mkimage
There is some interest lately in making a self-contained grub2 boot image - call it pvgrub2, used for booting paravirtual domU in xen where a grub2 config is installed. First attempt------------------ I first tried using the grub2*.src.rpm from the C7 vault. I configured as shown belowhttps://blog.xenproject.org/2015/01/07/using-grub-2-as-a-bootloader-for-xen-pv-guests/ for headers, I used

Xen PVH support for grub-xen in Buster
Hi Debian Grub maintainer, In december, Xen PVH support has been committed in grub master: https://www.mail-archive.com/grub-devel at gnu.org/msg28125.html The last pieces needed in the Linux kernel to boot PVH with grub2 landed in Linux 4.20. I asked our kernel team to carry those patches on top of the Linux 4.19 kernel that is going to ship in Buster, and that wish was granted:

strange email from cron regarding "rear"
I don't understand what this means, I found it in root's email this morning: To log into the recovery system via ssh set up /root/.ssh/authorized_keys or specify SSH_ROOT_PASSWORD WARNING: /usr/lib/grub/x86_64-efi/moddep.lst not found, grub2-mkimage will likely fail. Please install the grub2-efi-x64-modules package to fix this. ERROR: Error occurred during grub2-mkimage of BOOTX64.efi

Unable to mount root fs
Hey all, I'am able to use pxelinux to successfully boot a particular kernel and image on various IBM PC's ex. 6287-41U and 6591-34U. However, using the same setup (ie. dhcp, tftp, pxelinux.0, pxelinux.cfg, networkcard, bootrom, ram memory) on an IBM 6282-73U my kernel and image decompress fine but I'am getting a... Stuck trying to boot Xen 4.3 on Arm Midway
I am trying to extract and combine the various pieces of information found in [1] and its sub-pages and the Xen in-tree documentation in order to make xen boot (potentially non-smp without some later changes). But since I am not familiar enough with Arm I think I am stuck doing something wrong. I compiled the hypervisor with debug and early printk for midway and use the xen.bin file (I could get

Introducing snf-image-creator
Hello all, I'd like to introduce to you snf-image-creator, an OS image creation tool that makes heavy use of libguestfs. We have been developing it for almost 3 years and use it with the Synnefo[1] open source IaaS cloud software and also with Google's Ganeti[2] cluster management software. However it is completely independent from the above solutions and can be used as a generic image

How to make a Google Compute Engine boot image with guestfish?
wow - guestfish has a dizzying array of options and functionality - looks awesome. I feel a bit like I’m asking for homework help, but perhaps someone might be willing to save me a weekend (or more) of trial and error by pointing me in the right direction….. I’ve done so much fiddling with this sort of stuff that I know a little insider guidance can be a *huge* help and time saver. And if it is

Changes to get CD to boot on EFI System.
Hi, Ady wrote: > http://www.syslinux.org/archives/2015-October/024526.html I still have it in my mailbox: ADY4UEFI.IMG in ADY4UEFI.ZIP. The test results are the same as with Didier's partition image. Wrapped in an ISO and presented as -cdrom it reboots in cycles. Presented as -hda it boots as naked disk image and as part of a GPT enhanced ISO 9660. > the wiki page needs

[PATCH 0/4] Turn-key PV-GRUB2 installation
This patch set should make it easier to maintain PV-GRUB2 installations. The general idea is based on discussions I had with Xen developers (mainly Ian Jackson) at the Ubuntu Developer Summit in May 2011; though I never did manage to get the core port done and Vladimir beat me to that, I think the configuration approach we discussed there is still valid and useful. The idea here is that people

RE: [OT] Re: Getting ext3 up and running
I referred to the entry rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0 in the output of "cat /proc/mounts", that is not really very much explicative, due to the setting "auto" in /etc/fstab and to the fact that file system had has_journal flag and no ext3 module was mounted. But I was wrong: I think that if you have an ext3 fs and you mount it as ext2, you continue to see the has_journal flag with

Creating LiveCD with EFI option?
I have been using syslinux-6.x along with isohybrid --mac and --efi option to create a usb hybrid iso with EFI support. The thing with EFI is that you'll need to use grub as your bootloader for EFI but isohybrid does setup the proper partition schema for EFI. You'll need to use the following to generate an iso that works. xorriso -as mkisofs -J -R -l -V some-vol-label \ -o ../image.iso

USB of ISO image
Hi I did the dd iso to my USB. all is fine. I can mount the second partition (which is not iso 9660) and edit the grub.cfg file. Question is what do I run after that so my new menu option appears ? grub2-install /dev/sdd Is that the correct command to get grub to notice my new file ? Assuming sdd is the USB disk of course. Thanks, jerry

Client/server test harness - Crucible 1.6
Hi all, At OLS last month I presented about doing automated client/server testing of NFSv4. In and after that talk there was some discussion with Steve French about using the same framework for testing Samba, so I thought it might be worthwhile to post about the framework on this list. We've also just put out a new 1.6 release of Crucible; I've attached the release notice below. The
