Theora Intra (ptalarbvorm) vs. MJPEG
...ngs like frame-by-frame editing without the need to decode and reencode the video again, thus incurring loss. I was quite skeptical of the efficiency of intra-only Theora, and I had speculated that the quality difference between intra-only Theora video (using the latest ptalarbvorm code) and, say, MJPEG video, wouldn't be much. I decided to test this theory, and so I pulled down some real HD 1080p videos from the Xiph media site (http://media.xiph.org) and decided to test intra-only Theora and MJPEG at 25Mbps with the test clips. I used the encoder_example that's packaged with libtheora...

Video Streaming an ip mjpeg camera
Hi! Just searched the icecast forum but didn't find anything, so I'll ask you. Do you know of a streaming server to take as input a mjpeg stream from an ip camera and transcode it to ogg[vorbis] and handle it to icecast? Please don't mention vlc. Already tried and every 10 sec it freezes and buffers. Just playing the camera in vlc works fine, but not transcoding and connecting to icecast. Thanks. Alex

Not sure if you perhaps intended to obfuscate these for the purposes of email, but in ezstream you are using a different source password to oggfwd. - Leo On 1 November 2010 10:17, Bino Oetomo <bino at indoakses-online.com> wrote: > > Dear All ... > I have AXIS camera with output mjpeg format. > > I try to relay it to outside world using ffmpeg and it work > The recipe is taken from > http://www.daantje.nl/2007/05/07/convert-axis-webcam-stream-to-flash-swfflv/ > > Now .. Re: PC-based video server
...e all the high-res video on disks (DVR); That's relatively easy. > 2 - serve lower resolution video from live data in parallel with recording > with minimal delay. This is the tricky part because, as you describe below, the theora format video needs to be transcoded into something like MJPEG format AND streamed at the same time. I really don't know what kind of CPU power you need to do that. If it was a single network camera, I suspect that a high-end PC today could do the job, but 10-20 network cameras, that almost sounds like a cluster, or a rack, of PCs to me. I think the onl...

NHW Project - some news
Hello, Nice to post here again! I wanted to give you a quick update of the NHW Project as I met great people on this forum. It is one year that I did not work on the NHW Project.I however made from time to time some visual comparison with other codecs on my spare time. Based on my visual comparison tests and subjective opinion, I can confirm that I still find the NHW Project visually more

NHW Project - Is there interested people?
...ose my energy for this project, and furthermore now there is no future for it. However it would be great to find someone that could take over the NHW Project.Turning it into a video codec for example, because there was interest in NHW for a MotionJPEG replacement, because a company was considering MJPEG for low-power camera devices, and MJPEG was too heavyweight for their processor (dual-core 240MHz Xtensa LX6, if I remember correctly).For now with rough calculation based on the latest Independent JPEG Group (IJG) C source code, NHW is 1.5x faster to encode than JPEG (and 2x faster to decode), but...

Lossless video codec
I know this probably transcends the scope of the current aims of Ogg video, but one thing I'd consider extremely useful is a lossless video compressor. There are a few of them out there (e.g. PICVideo's lossless wavelet codec) but I've found no free ones so far. The primary use would be for storage of video clips that would be too cumbersome to store as raw frames but still require

Good sources for encoding tests
...de/decode speeds as well as quality comparisons between libtheora 1.0 and the latest SVN trunk at the time of testing. The kinds of sources I have available of my own include the following: 1. Lots of videos of varying quality produced by my Canon PowerShot A550 camera. These are all in MJPEG format, VGA (640x480) resolution, and have 30 frames per second. Despite the high bitrate (sometimes approaching 40kb/s) of some of these videos (with the help of CHDK), they quality is quite low, as MJPEG is a very inefficient intra-only encoding format. Still, I think...

Paperclip not executing FFMPEG properly
Im using a customs processor to run ffmpeg on a video to create a thumbnail. So far so good. Except when I do: cmd = "-i #{@file.path} -f flv -s 320x240 ~/Downloads/foobar/q.flv" success = Paperclip.run(''ffmpeg'', cmd) Console is reporting: ffmpeg ''-i /var/folders/uL/uL0bYOOZEZaJH5E+BmDJVE+++TI/-Tmp-/stream, 16824,1.mpeg -f flv -s 320x240

ffmpeg2theora 0.25 synchronization issues when converting from .mov
Has anyone noticed this? I have a video made with Final Cut Pro, which I convert to .mov via Compressor. This .mov file plays back fine in Quicktime. But when I then use ffmpeg2theora to convert to ogv, the video seems to play back too fast compared to the audio (I'm using VLC 1.0.2, the latest I believe, to play back the ogv file, and I also have an app that uses the recently

My calls to libtheora are succeeding, and I am copying the ogg_packet structures returned by libtheora back to ffmpeg.. :) When I attempt to decode my file with this command: "./ffmpeg -v 100 -i test.avi -f avi -an -vcodec mjpeg -b 10000000 -y test2.avi" I get output like so: ...
