liveice sending horrible static noise?
Ah... mixice has nothing to do with liveice, does it?
The reason you have to put -x in the LAME arguments in mixice is because LAME
is set up to be big-endian by default. The x86 architecture is little-endian,
though.
I'm using liveice to encode the stream... and being on a big-endian powerpc

liveice sending horrible static noise?
Please excuse my ignorance, what is a mixice program?
I am using LAME. So in lifeice.cfg:
USE_LAME3 lame
I did try forcing byte-swapping in LAME by setting ENCODER_ARGS in the
liveice.cfg file, though I may have done it wrong
liveice.cfg:
USE_LAME3 lame
ENCODER_ARGS -x

broadcast FM radio
Hi.
I want to broadcast FM radio.
Can i pass data directly from my radio card to livecast
and finally to my server, or must i pass data in the sound
card after the radio card and before liveice?
Thanks in advance,
Bertrand.

do darkice and shout play together well
Mixice (www.lns.com/papers/mixice) does. I have it running on
FreeBSD 4.x machines for KKSF, KPFA, KFCF, etc. for a live MP3
stream (icecast 1.x.x). I will have an OGG version of it soon as
we have some demand for better quality streams.

where does linein writes to
I have tried broadcasting from both SuSE Linux and Slackware and with various programs being the last one Tim`s Mixice (which is a perl script that works along with a program called catdsp). Looking at the source I saw that this programs, both of them, try to open /dev/dsp.
Now, my question is if /dev/dsp is the standard device for the line-in of the audio card?
I have tried, as suggested in previous mails, rais...

There is also mixice which is a perl script that will do live
encoding. :-) Currently in use at a number of commercial and
non-comm stations.

broadcast FM radio
...FM station over shoutcast? Assuming
you are running a UNIX-like OS like *BSD or Linux, that is pretty
easy with an FM card like the Hauppauge TV/FM card driving the
analog input of a sound card like a Sound Blaster. At that point
taking the /dev/dsp PCM audio and shoving it into something like
my MIXICE perl script (http://www.lns.com/papers/mixice) or Liveice
(http://star.arm.ac.uk/~spm/software/liveice.html) program will do
the trick.
If you want to FM broadcast a stream, then get your self a FM
transmitter kit like the Ramsey (http://www.ramseyelectronics.com)

Sorting File List
Hello folks, I was wondering if there was a way to have the file listing
displayed by (http://v-man.ca:8000/file) sorted in alphabetical order?
My playlists are in alphabetical order, but I am playing them randomly on
the mountpoint. With this is mind, I am assuming that icecast is serving up
the playlist as it has been given it by ices.
Any thoughts?
Gary.

Nothing let's icecast stream mp3s from a file. Icecast always(1) gets
it's input from a socket, generally via some 'source' program like ices,
liveice, shout, etc.
Now, as for which source you want, that depends on how you are
streaming. If you are

install instructions for iceS on i.cantcode.com
hello,
liveice just won't work for me anymore, it crashes and thus I won't waste my
time on it anymore.
thus, what's the url with the install instructions for iceS. If I'm not
mistaken, it was somewhere hidden on i.cantcode.com?
thanks,
t.

yes, your system is too slow, and can not keep up with the sound card
input. are you running darkice as root? what is the system load when you
run darkice or liveice?

earlier versions of FreeBSD as liveice was written for Linux in
mind and there were some problems with how liveice was talking to
piped files.
I wrote a perl script that also does live MP3 streaming to a pre-2.0
icecast and shoutcast servers. You can find it at
http://www.lns.com/papers/mixice.

no luck with streamers
I have seen this behavour with my mixice streaming program too if
the channels are turned down or if the line input is not set for
"record". Using "aumix" or "mixer" can find out how they are set
and can be used to adjust them.

liveice sending horrible static noise?
Hi,
I'm trying to get liveice to work on a YellowDog (powerpc) computer, and all I
can get it to stream is an awful static noise. Listening carefully, I can
barely hear the song in with the noise...
Looking through the list archives, I see someone has posted a similar problem,
and fixed it by undefining NUMBER_LITTLE_ENDIAN in liveice.h
So I did,
liveice.h:/* #define
