residual standard "error"
I see that the sigma() function has recently been introduced into R 3.3. The help for sigma() says: Extract the estimated standard deviation of the errors, the ?residual standard deviation? (misnomed also ?residual standard error?, e.g., in summary.lm()'s output, from a fitted model. Is there any reason not to fix the mis-naming of residual standard error now too? Both functions are in the stats package. It seems odd for one function in the package to point out an issue with another, e...

[LLVMdev] Hidden-visibility aliases to default-visibility globals
...e dynamic loader is used. I'm trying to figure out the best way to fix this. The GlobalValue::mayBeOverridden() function controls whether LLVM resolves aliases, and hacking this function to return true if a global is hidden gets around this particular problem, but converts the function into a misnomer (a hidden alias may _not_ be overridden, e.g. by LD_PRELOAD, although I'm pretty sure mayBeOverridden is not intended to care about LD_PRELOAD) and results in a lot of deoptimisation. I'm thinking of introducing a new function GlobalAlias::mayBeResolved() which returns true if mayBeOverr...

It's unfortunate we don't have a version of CHECK-SAME that restarts the match from the beginning. Maybe I should add one. CHECK-SAME seems like a misnomer. Perhaps CHECK-CONTINUE would have been more clear. -David

Upgraing a DC using the 'DC rejoin' method
I used the DC rejoin method as described in the WiKi to upgrade one of my DCs to version 4.11.0. Following the steps, when I came to rejoin the domain, it initially failed, complaining that the DC already existed, but to force the rejoin, remove the files: secrets.ldb and secrets.tdb. I assume you don't demote the DC before the upgrade, as there's no mention of this? Anyway, I

Why is wineprefixcreate deprecated?
I understand that it is applied automatically when needed, but there are times when one would want to run it manually. An example is when I want to literally create a new wine prefix such as env WINEPREFIX="/home/bamm/apps/myprog" wineprefixcreate to prepare a clean profile for future installation of myprog. I know that running setup with a WINEPREFIX would create the clean profile,

Using samba-python to query AD? Status of API?
Hello: I'd really like to leverage the samba-python API to perform 'net ads search' style queries for an upcoming project. Is there any documentation or examples someone can point me to? The 'python/examples' directory is a misnomer (!) and the online API documentation was generated from 2011 and is also just as cryptic. I even checked the binaries in samba-client to see if any existing utilities are using these Python libraries but alas, they are show up as ELFs! :-( Any pointers or insights into leveraging these module w...

ABR or CBR?
Just in case my quotation causeed misunderstnaing... Forget about what I quoted before. Probably, by CBR, Monty meant ABR since CBR is stupidly patented and this is the reason why Vorbis has no CBR option. If you know this, it cannot be a problem but I see there is a question asking what is ABR in the mailing list. >On Thu 28 Jun 2001, 23:27:41 PDT, Monty (xiphmont@xiph.org)Wrote: >then

Boot order of floppy, CD, NIC, HDD, 2 manual entries of EFI images on HDD, and the internal shell. Manually selecting NIC, booting sl604p0g18 binaries, config directive as "LOCALBOOT -1", it returns to the fi...

[LLVMdev] ScalarEvolution::createNodeForPHI
Hello to everybody, I'm working on some improvements on trip count computation with ScalarEvolution analysis. Considering the following test ;----------------------------------------------------------------------------; define void @foo(i32 %a, i32 %b, i32 %s) #0 { entry: %cmp = icmp sgt i32 %s, 0 %cmp15 = icmp sgt i32 %a, %b %or.cond = and i1 %cmp, %cmp15 br i1 %or.cond, label

My apologies. What I should have said is "an approach with superior precision". Both cfl and Ben Hardekopf's work you mentioned (which improves analysis performance by using SSA transformation as a pre-pass to eliminate easy-to-analyze pointers) can be viewed as opti...

Problem with bridged network configuration
Hi, When I initially boot my system, it fails to bring up the network. Once booted, if I run "systemctl restart network.service", or even stop, wait a while, then start, it starts up fine and all is well. I'm running Fedora 19 (updated). I followed the instructions on this page to set up a bridged network: http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Networking I note however that I did *not*

paste(character(0), collapse="", recycle0=FALSE) should be ""
...comment that controlling the collapse operation via an argument named 'recycle0' doesn't make sense (collapse involves NO recycling). So I don't know if the current 'recyle0=TRUE' behavior is "the correct one" but at the very least the name of the argument is a misnomer and misleading. More generally speaking using the same argument to control 2 distinct operations is not good API design. A better design is to use 2 arguments. Then the 2 arguments can generally be made orthogonal (like in this case) i.e. all possible combinations are valid (4 combinations i...

[LLVMdev] [Proposal] Parallelize post-IPO stage.
...whole-program" mode is almost identical to Open64's IPA in spirit, I guess gcc community likely borrowed some idea from Open64. On the other hand, as far as I can understand of the oldish gcc's implementation before I join Apple, I guess the "whole-program mode" in gcc is misnomer. I don't want call this work as "whole-program mode", I'd like to call "big program mode" or something like that, as I don't care the binary being built see the whole-program or not while the analyses/opt do care the difference between them. > > What is a...
