creating function bodies using body()
I'm having trouble figuring out how to create a function using "body<-" (). The help file for body() says that the argument should be a list of R expressions. However if I try that I get an error: > tmpfun <- function(a, b=2){} > body(tmpfun) <- list(expression(z <- a + b),expression(z^2)) Error in as.function.default(c(formals(f), value), envir) :

avoiding the sample in built function
Dear all, I am currently working on a function in which I would like to avoid using the command sample(). Therefore, I am now trying to make a for loop that does the same thing as the in built function sample does: Rearranging the items of a object randomly. So, the output I want to you get is the same as sample() would give me: e.g.: data <- c(5,4,6,7,8) sample(data) > data <-

Overfitting/Calibration plots (Statistics question)
This isn't a question about R, but I'm hoping someone will be willing to help. I've been looking at calibration plots in multiple regression (plotting observed response Y on the vertical axis versus predicted response [Y hat] on the horizontal axis). According to Frank Harrell's "Regression Modeling Strategies" book (pp. 61-63), when making such a plot on new data

Cannot chain to another PXE server on the same subnet
...ddition to -W. Tried it but still the same error. > Thanks.? I'm guessing this is a lab or this is sanitized. sanitized (no real reason to but I guess it's common practice) > I presume changing only next-server and filename results in success to > boot the Altiris NBP? Oops, I misjudged the situation. It does NOT work if I replace with: next-server 10.215.144.60; filename "/BStrap/x86pc/BStap.0"; It gives me the same error message (sorry). It starts working if I remove the whole class "pxeclient" clause, ie. I remove next-server, filename and the whole clas...

HAML makes me love and hate Python
...;s so much cleaner, easier to read, easy to write. It''s just amazing. I can''t believe I actually have to write "end" after all of my Ruby blocks. I''m almost tempted to write Ruby in HAML so I don''t have to do that, lol. It makes me think that perhaps I misjudged Python, or too quickly dismissed its use of whitespace. Now, to the flip side of the coin. I hate HAML with a passion. I can''t stand it. The god damn whitespace makes it almost impossible to edit. Although it''s easy to write, if you ever make any changes, or want to copy and pa...

Cannot chain to another PXE server on the same subnet
Sorry for top-posting but my webmail forces me to. I added -W to the APPEND line as suggested but I'm still getting the same result: Booting... Altiris, inc. Mailing list <-> forum gateway
Hi all, First off - this is not flame bait or a troll. It's a genuine question. Since the forum gateway was introduced, it is my opinion that this list is getting flooded with newbie questions. Check the "I just installed Ubuntu" thread for a typical example. I wish to silently remove all wine-forum posts and their replies from my inbox. I plan to filter based on From:

ISO R-programming docs/refs
In my job I write custom computer programs for data analysis, which are used in our company's consulting business. Whenever I've needed statistical analyses I've coded the algorithms myself, but my boss wants me to start learning and using R, to speed up development. I am very reluctuant to do this because I can't find adequate *programming* documentation for R (though I can find
