MiscPsycho Package 1.0
I have just submitted MiscPsycho to CRAN. MiscPsycho contains functions for miscellaneous psychometrics that may be useful for applied psychometricians. MML estimation already exists in the ltm package. Hence, a jml option is provided for users who prefer this method. The jml function gives back rasch difficulties and the same Inf...

MiscPsycho 1.1 uploaded to CRAN
Version 1.1 of the MiscPsycho package had been uploaded to CRAN. The package has been updated to include the following: 1) The irt.ability() function that estimates examinee ability given a set of item parameters. The function is very general and can be used to estimate ability when there are only dichotomous items (1-, 2-, or...

...t scales. 2) An implementation of the Levenshtein algorithm for comparing character strings 3) stringProbs, a function for computing the probability of a given Levenshtein Distance 4) Three sources of documentation on all functions. There is complete technical documentation on the functions used in MiscPsycho in the file MP.pdf, the stocking-lord implementation is documented in stock_lord.pdf, and a paper describing the Levenshtein algorithm and its application in educational measurement is provided in levenshtein.pdf. All of these are in the docs folder in the package distribution. Any comments, react...

Vignette for MiscPsycho Package
By the end of the day I will have a vignette completed for MiscPsycho. This vignette lays out the mathematical details for the primary functions in the package and provides substantive examples on how to use these functions in a sample session. This vignette will ultimately end up being distributed with the package itself. However, I plan to build new versions slowl...

MiscPsycho 1.1 revised posted
A revised version of the MiscPsycho package has been uploaded to CRAN. The fixes include: 1) A bug found in the class.acc() function that resulted in overflow errors when computing probabilities associated with polytomously scored items has been resolved. The function now integrates over the posterior distribution of an IRT model fo...

Problem with package build
...oblems at all. The log says the error is with the function choose.M which uses another function posterior. However, both of the functions work properly when I source them in to R. More importantly, they worked properly when I built the package an hour ago and brought the library into R. recommended package/docs for analyzing multiple choice tests
Hi, What package would you recommend for analyzing the validity/reliability of multiple choice tests. Doing things such as classical test analysis, factor analysis, item response theory. I've used psychometric (item.exam), MiscPsycho (alpha.Summary), and ltm (rcor.test). MiscPsycho reported the numbers most similar to what I get in SPSS: corrected point biserial correlations, cronbach's alpha. I didn't understand what the psychometric package meant by its "discrimination" and "item reliability" num...

Adding an Sweave Vignette to a package
...r session info below). Here is what I have done. 1) I add the 'inst/doc' directory to the package source tree. 2) I have added the following information in the preamble of the .Rnw file % \VignetteIndexEntry{An \texttt{R} Package for Miscellaneous Psychometric Analyses} % \VignetteDepends{MiscPsycho, statmod} % \VignetteKeyword{misc} 3) I then copy the file "MP.Rnw" to the 'inst/doc' directory. 4) I then run Rcmd build g:\MiscPsycho The process begins as usual and it even tries to create the vignette. However, it runs into an error at code chunk 1 complaining that it cannot...

Protocol for data inclusion in new packages
In the near future I will release MiscPsycho, a package that contains various functions useful for applied psychometricians. I would like to include some data sets for distribution in the package, but have not created any of these on my own, but have used data distributed in other packages such as the LSAT data in the ltm package. Is it appr...

Pattern names matching
Dear R magic guys.. I have two tables (actually will be dataframes), both with names to be matched. The names on the first dataframe are from a study with antenatal visits on some health centers here. It happens that we need the delivery info. And half and some thing else of the women decided to delivery some where else our health units. We managed to get the names from some other places but now

reliability, scale scores in the psych package
Dear Professor Revelle and R-helpers, This is a two-part question: the first part is general, and the second is specific to the psych package. First question: In the past I've constructed composite variables from questionnaire data by using rowMeans(), and then correlating items with the scale using cor() as an informal check for "bad" items. Over the weekend I decided to take a

Ability estimates for partial credit model
Dear all, I'm working on ability estimates using Rasch model. Using the "ltm" package, the procedure is quite simple: ## Factor Scores for the Rasch model fit <- rasch(LSAT) factor.scores(fit) What about Partial Credit Model (PCM)? For PCM I use PCM function from eRm package. Is there any similar function like factor.scores to estimate ability scores using PCM model? Best,

Joint maximum likelihood estimation for ordinal data
Dear R users >From what I understand, the joint maximum likelihood procedure for Rasch (availabe in the package MiscPsycho) in R can only be used on binary data. I was wondering if the code is currently being adapted for application to ordinal data? I'm trying to replicate results obtained from Winsteps in R. Best wishes denn -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Joint-maximum-likelihood-estim...

Comparing/diffing strings
Hi all, all.equal is generally very useful when you want to find the differences between two objects. It breaks down however, when you have two long strings to compare: > all.equal(a, b) [1] "1 string mismatch" Does any one know of any good text diffing tools implemented in R? Thanks, Hadley -- Assistant Professor / Dobelman Family Junior Chair Department of Statistics / Rice
