samba 3.4 and 3.5 bug or misconfig: why is idmap uid and idmap gid needed for an AD only idmap config?
Hello list, I'm currently struggling in creating a running config for samba 3.4.9 and 3.5.6 on solaris 9 (active directory on windows 2003 R2 SP2 with rfc2307 schema extension, openssl 0.9.8o, libiconv 1.13.1, heimdal 1.4, cyrus-sasl 2.1.23, openldap 2.4.23) The relevant part in smb.conf is in [global] winbind enum users = Yes winbind enum groups = Yes winbind

Samba misconfig... (long)
I am trying to get my samba setup running (after putting it on the back burner for a few months with other issues). I am running Samba 3.0.0 on a SuSE 7.2 install. I have a linux box (clyde) and a Win2K box (Badmonkey) connected via a firewall/network. My smb.conf file is shown here: -- # Sambxa config file created using SWAT # from 127.0.0.1 (127.0.0.1) # Date: 2003/12/04 05:28:37 # Global

How verbose should NUT be by default?
...should be that quiet (whether because C code is changed unconditionally, or conditionally with such an option or envvar, or by redirecting "noise" from scripts to /dev/null)?.. Say, for `upsmon -K` example, is it useful to know that "power down was NOT requested" and why (may be misconfig, e.g. flag file left on an unmounted filesystem) - or is it indeed useless noise for the dozens of "ordinary" reboots and shutdowns which happen not because of a power failure? network bridge hairpin parameter support
Hi: Currently we encounter a problem where OpenStack may forget or misconfig the bridge hairpin setting, and will cause some unexpected behavior [1]. Although this bug is marked fixed, but if we manually restart the vm by virsh will also trigger the problem. And because the bridge interface is created and managed by libvirt, we are considering move the hairpin configura...

IPQoS
Real networks use either PREC (as it maps 1:1 to 802.1p and MPLS TC) or DSCP. Interactive SSH uses PREC 0x0, which is just best-effort and DSCP 0x4 which has no standard meaning (found network where DSCP 0x4 was dropped, completely, as it didn't hit any defined/allowed QoS class, obviously misconfig, BE class should eat anything not already defined) Should interactive use TOS value which has highest chance for priority behaviour? If so, then PREC 5 == DSCP CS5 is best bet. -- ++ytti

doveadm import with subfolder oddity
...e with a query of 'all mailbox Sub.Sub1'. It's only when importing from a local src and local dest (i.e. source_location == mdbox:~/mdbox) that it fails. With source_location set to 'imapc:', it works. I imagine that's due to using straight IMAP on the source side. Likely a misconfig on my part? Expected behavior? I can see in the strace that the error is triggered when doveadm is looking at the source mailbox. It looks for mdbox/mailboxes/Sub.Sub1/dbox-Mails first, then falls back to mdbox/mailboxes/Sub/Sub1/dbox-Mails (which it finds). Then a little bit later in the strace,...

Duplicate suppression
Hello, In a Dovecot 2.0.6 server I have an account x at domain and an alias y at domain -> x at domain. When I send an email to x at domain with carbon copy to y at domain, X receives two messages on mailbox. Dovecot2 has any feature of duplicate suppression ? Thanks, Thiago Henrique

Talking SIP to Vocal
...00800150" when it should (I think) be "08452416761". I'm using source from CVS, checked out yesterday. Calls out via IAX work fine. Calls out via SIP to Free World Dialup work fine, but then FWD doesn't ask for authentication. Is this a bug in the SIP auth code or am I misconfiged? Any ideas please? Thanks, Mark.

Caller ID issues
I am going to be on site at one of my recent installs tomorrow and I am hoping to fix an issue with the caller id. I would like suggestions for possible problem areas and so I thought I would give as much details as I can. The system has a Sangoma A200D card in it with 4 FXO ports and 2 FXS, The incoming pstn lines are all 3 part of a hunt group and At&t has confirmed the settings for caller

LMTP tcp listener with auth?
...r. Thought so. > What is your use case? Most people hide LMTP behind a firewall, or don't > expose it through TCP/IP in the first place. The port is currently only available to a few trusted machines, but having auth available would have been a nice benefit in case the firewall gets misconfigured. Cyrus for example will expose the LMTP port via TCP if configured, but expects valid user credentials. The larger use-case is a migration from cyrus to dovecot. As it's not just the MDA but also the MTA installation that is being migrated I need a way to deliver mail from the old MTA t...

But in general, you should be able to hit up a web search and look for howtos and other documents on setting up networking between a C7 host and its guests. That will allow you to (1) understand how it's currently setup, (2) verify if there is any misconfig, and (3) correct or change if needed. > Yes, that is potential solution I had not thought of. samba sam problem [version 2.2.3a on RH 8]
Hi folks I'm new to this list, fresh into linux and samba. Simply love it :-) I have a customer that have about 10 XP pro machines connected to a linux samba server. Since there are a quite few documents that only two of the users are going to see, I use groups and different shares. This setup have been working for a while. controlling SIP subscriptions from SNOM phones
We recently deployed 10 SNOMs as part of a PBX hosted solution. We have one phone setup as the receptionist phone, using hints to show busy office lines. This all works as expected. This is a new installation, and people are just starting to setup their phones. For those of you not familiar with SNOM phones, there is a row of keys on the right side of the phone which SNOM calls function keys. In
