Successful Inplace migration from 4.4 to 5.0
I was able to successfully migrate from 4.4 to 5.0 in place. I created a guide for our webhost and thought to share it with the community in general. I registered as JasonPotkanski on the wiki. As a side note, if spam on the CentOS wiki is terrible, perhaps use of Bad Behavior may be used. -Jason Potkanski Citizendium ---- All right, Here is an unholy guide for Migrating Centos 4.4 to 5.0

Could not resolve host: mirror.centos.org
There seems to be a problem with my local dns server resolving mirror.centos.org. I know something about dns but obviously not enough to figure out what might be wrong here or how to fix this in bind configs. The SERVFAIL errors below seem to be related to AAAA and MX queries for the domain. Please advise. TIA. # host mirror.centos.org 8.8.8.8 Using domain server: Name: 8.8.8.8 Address:

Broken rsync mirroring for PuppetLabs APT repo
Hi, I have sent this mail to info@puppetlabs.com and received no answer, so I''m posting here as well; I hope somebody at PuppetLabs will be able to help. I have a local mirror of apt.puppetlabs.com which has been broken for at least a few days: the apt/dists/ subdirectory only contains symlinks to non-existent files. massive mirror errors
I'm trying to ... yum groupinstall "Development Tools" on a reasonably current 5.5 system and getting massive mirror failures... is there a problem, or is this my employer's network messing up? (45/74): rpm-build-4.4.2.3-20.el5_5.1.i386.rpm | 302 kB 00:03

should cAos block access to mirror.caosity.org?
Hey, Greg suggested that I take a straw poll. Should cAos take steps to prevent getting stuck with a big ISP bill in the future? For example, should cAos: a) for new installs, have the yum.conf point to public mirrors, rather than to mirror.caosity.org? b) make sure that "yum update" does not substitute a new yum.conf file that points only to mirror.caosity.org? c) allow public

why developers got stuck with huge ISP bill
Lance, Let's go at this from another angle. > I am absolutely certain having analysed the logs > that the excess bandwidth was caused by people > downloading .iso images for centos from our > master mirror(s) .... How could this happen? Here is my explanation: 1) As far as I am aware, the cAos site does NOT ask distro users to download from public mirrors, rather than from

Re: [users] CentOS 4.2 dag repo problem.
Hello, It would be nice if we could get a full list of packages which have a wrong sha1 checksum. I don't have the bandwidth for a full mirror of all of Dag's rpms and i also don't have shell access to such a mirror. So a small request for a mirror admin: The following checks the files repodata/*.xml.gz against the sha1 sums in repomd.xml and checks the RPMS/*.rpm files against

yum-fastestmirror inconsistent exclude behavior
Hi guys, I'm trying to figure out something wherein excluded repositories for the yum-fastestmirror plugin are still being used by the system. To illustrate: [root at sales ~]# cat /etc/yum/pluginconf.d/fastestmirror.conf [main] enabled=1 verbose=0 socket_timeout=3 hostfilepath=/var/cache/yum/timedhosts.txt maxhostfileage=10 maxthreads=15 #exclude=.gov, facebook exclude=maulvi, .gov.ph, .vn

yum can't connect to mirrors
Hello, I added rpmforge yum repo to my yum config and then the box couldn't connect to fetch updates. I added enabled=0 to rpmforge.repo as well as add-ons, contrib, and centosplus, but i'm still getting mirror errors. I believe i've got some file corruption somewhere, but i don't see where. I can't even fetch packages in updates now, keep getting connection refused

suggestion: better support for https CRAN mirrors
Hello, I see that https CRAN mirrors are starting to pop up, as per this post at https://support.rstudio.com/hc/en-us/articles/206827897-Secure-Package-Downloads-for-R However, trying to use one of these mirrors without changing the default download.file.method option gives me errors > Warning: unable to access index for repository https://cran.rstudio.com/src/contrib > Warning: unable to

[LLVMdev] About setting up official git & bzr mirrors.
Time ago when the svn server was crawling due to massive hammering from people mirroring the repo, someone said that after the 2.6 release we could discuss creating official mirrors for those who work with svn clients based on distributed VCSs such as git and bazaar. Such mirrors increase productivity (facilitating experimentation and parallel tasks, allowing off-line work) and even l...

Why not use yum mirrorlist= instead of baseurl= in CentOS-Base.repo
Currently the default yum configuration references mirror.centos.org. When yum looks up the IP address it finds several but it will only try one and fail if that server is down or does not have the headers for whatever reason. If yum were to reference a mirrorlist it would skip servers that fail and keep trying them all until it finds one that works or exhausts all the mirrors. Centos would

Network guru please help: baffled by missing file
The mirrorlist entry in my Fedora-11 /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-update.repo reads: mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=updates-released- f$releasever&arch=$basearch As far as I can see, this means that yum is looking for the file metalink at mirrors.fedoraproject.org ? If I try "sudo yum update" I get: ----------------------------------- [tim at elizabeth ~]$
