issues with non /usr install-prefix
Greetings everybody! I'm trying to figure out how to get compiz install error-free in a prefix other than /usr. Because I currently don't "trust" compiz-packages on Ubuntu EdgyEft I have it install upstream to /home/mirco/compiz. I call configure like this: ./configure --prefix=/home/mirco/compiz --enable-librsvg --enable-gtk --enable-metacity --enable-dbus --enable-gconf --enable-gnome --disable-schemas-install The call to "make" finishes ok. But at the end "make install&quo...

domain users "primary group" does not take effect in UNIX attributes (NIS)
...I would expect a line like that... johndoe:*:500:500:John Doe:/srv/some/thing/else:/bin/false I have tried with other groups, too but without success. Whatever I do choose as "primary group" for a user in the [UNIX Attributes] tab, it does *not take effect*. Is this a known bug? Cheers, Mirco

I have no idea how to fix it at the moment, but if you have more clues I'd appreciate your opinion. roaming profile does not work for "Domain Admins"
...roblem. I ensured that by putting "EVERYONE" to sharing and security settings for the [profiles] share, but it didn't help either. I cannot explain myself where this is related to. I'm stuck here for many hours and have no clue where else to look at. Any help really appreciated. Mirco Meanwhile I spent about 12 hours (!) on that problem and still didn't solve it. It's really frustrating me :( The problem occurs with Windows XP workstation as well on Win7 workstation. Even when I "mkdir -p /new/dir" on the member server, and create a new share in smb.conf, then...

reason for bad performance on i915 (AIGLX)
...of support for transparent GL-apps under compiz on the i915. I'm not sure if this is a purely a driver issue or partly my fault (not selecting the correct visual in e.g. gl-cairo-cube). All my transparent cairo-hacks work fine. Thanks in advance for your time and kind advice! Best regards... I thought about if I have any (dis-/)advantages when using Debian Wheezy Backports for obtaining the samba4 packages in future. Are there any pro/cons ? Is that a misconfiguration in the unison/rsync tutorial shown on https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/SysVol_Bidirectional_Replication Mirco. We see, the owner still is "foo" with uid=500 > Do things work if you test as "Administrator" (root) ? > achim? 3rd-party tool for creating users as alternative to ADUC
...I would like to have the "owner = johndoe" in that case. ADUC cannot perform that, I understand it, so I would have to do a "chown johndoe /srv/samba/home/johndoe" to get the desired result. Is there any 3rd-party AD-user-tool available which could solve the mentioned points? Mirco.

g-w-d.c -> my head spins
Greetings everybody! I started looking more thoroughly at gnome-window-decorator.c and now my head spins and "hurts" and believe that I'm not going to achieve anything serious in terms of tweakable shadows anytime soon. It's far more difficult than I expected. While I (believe) to understand now the shadows are drawn, I currently don't get why there are 12 shadow-quads and

Sofar I was not able to revert to a state identifying which commit introduced this flaw. This is happening to me on an i915 and a GeForce7900GT. Using git revert <some commit> is the right way to work oneself
