Minutemen UPS Driver
...UPS's purpose is only to
carry the server while the generator spins up.
The only thing that monitoring a UPS is good for is REDUCING the
frequency of unexpected shutdowns that require an extensive fsck on
restart.? In other words - if you aren't willing to pay the money to
REPLACE your Minuteman UPS with a model that is better supported, and
use serial port monitoring instead of USB monitoring (since serial ports
are more likely to not have compatibility issues) then you aren't even
in the class to even start demanding you will have reliable shutdowns.?

FW: samba woes
All,
I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last
few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

PDF * powerpoint files need the x bit set under linux
We are trying to migrate to samba from NT4 data servers, We don't currently
allow users the execute permission on data drives, so I have setup data
drives with a creat mask of 0660 which seems ok. The problem I'm having it
that both powerpoint and PDF files seem to need the 'x' bit set before users
can edit or open the files. Has anybody else had this problem? and if so

ACLs on client Samba machines with Samba PDC.
I've got a Samba box (2.2.5a) as a member of a Samba domain. Both the PDC
and client are running 2.4.18 with XFS and ACLs compiled in. Problem: on
the client, I can -NOT- modify the ACLs for files from Windows. (Note
that I can modify the stock Unix permissions, but not the extended
users/permissions that ACL support offers.) If I try, they just vanish
when I click "OK".

OT: Jerry seems like such a polite chap
I always smile to myself when reading the replies on the mailing list from
Gerald (jerry) Carter. That cheers at the end of everything always makes it
seem that he is such a nice person. Of course half the reason I smile to
myself is the inanity of getting that impression from one word in an e-mail.
For all I know he is a complete jerk. And even the huge power lifters at

some 390 problems fixed...
Ok, I've checked in a fix to 2.2.x and HEAD that should take care of a
bunch of the segv problems (as well as some other unpredictable behavior.
There are probably more to find, but this was the major one.

Samba with IBM Directory Server
Hi,
I can successfully run Samba (v2.2.10 or v 3.0.10) in the smbpasswd mode.
However, I cannot get it to connect to the IBM LDAP server (IDS v5.2).
Can someone point me to a doc or web site for this?
Thanks,

OS2 - Samba
Hi there,
I tried to connect OS2 Warp 4 to Samba server. The network used to be NT 4.0 Domain, then migrated to Samba to become Domain Controller. I've followed below instruction, and still can't login to the domain. I can get an IP address and ping the Samba server, but can't login to domain and map any network share.

SAMBA on AIX
Hi everyone,
I run to some confusion here and hope someone give me a answer before I
implement it.
I am trying to install samba2.05 on my AIX 4.3.1, but the binary file in the
web site is for AIX 4.3.2. Can I still use the binary file for my
installation on AIX 4.3.1 ?
Thanks !
