Installing Centos 7 on 4K laptop
I have recently bought a Dell Inspiron 15 7570 laptop with a 4K display on which I want to install Centos 7. I had some problems with the first install and am therefore redoing the install. One problem is the minuscule font, both in the text window and in the graphic installer. It has been suggested that I should add nomodeset to the grub installer. There is an option to use TAB to complete option choices but nomodeset does not seem to be one of the available options. Am I missing something? If not nomodeset, is...

[LLVMdev] fix for loop scale limiting in BFI

I think I need to smooth this better. In the meantime, I wanted to pick your brain. Maybe I'm completely off-base in my analysis. Thanks. Re: PR#886: Error (?) in documentation of 'swiss'
...n I put up the first 'bug' report, #886. I noticed my error a couple of days after and put up a comment to that effect on R-bugs, but it seems to have vanished (or alternatively I did that wrong as well). I agree with you on the criterion for the choice of districts as well. There remains a minuscule discrepancy between the Mosteller and Tukey description and the Princeton one, in that M&T say that the 4th variable is the % of the population with education beyond primary school, whereas the Princeton source says it's the percentage of 'draftees' with this level of education; giv...

MGE ellipse 1200 config and documentation
...ted documentation that came with the box was pretty much useless. What I was not prepared was the quality of MGE's web site (English-language version). Guys, if you want my advice: FIX IT IMMEDIATELY. Not only the design is awful and it is full of broken links pointing nowhere, but even the minuscule amount of extra documentation that can be found there is written in mostly incomprehensible language (it is supposed to be English I guess), outdated, incomplete and plain wrong in places. This creates a VERY bad image of the company. I understand MGE is mainly targeting on kind of industrial m...

Read a text file into R with .Call()
Hi, I want to read a text file into R with .Call(). So I define some NEW_CHARACTER() to store the chracters read and use SET_STRING_ELT to fill the elements. e.g. PROTECT(qNames = NEW_CHARACTER(10000)); char *foo; // This foo holds the string I want. while(foo = readLine(FN)){ SET_STRING_ELT(qNames, i, mkChar(foo))); } In this way, I can get the desired character from qNames. The only problem

Floating-point-related surprising behaviour in boot:::norm.inter
...<- 999 rk <- (R + 1) * alpha k <- trunc(rk) ints <- (k == rk) # TRUE FALSE k - rk # 0.000000e+00 -2.131628e-14 This is why the subsequent variable `temp` (containing the indices of non-integer order statistics) becomes equal to 2. Yes, the amount of correction due to interpolation is minuscule (around 1e-16), but this code should not have been invoked in the first place. This kind of unintended behaviour can be prevented through a more relaxed check: ints <- abs(k - rk) < R * .Machine$double.eps The FP-related error is proportional to R, e.g. if R=99999, then, abs(k - rk) = 0.000...

predicting financial time series
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 What are the best tools (models within R) for use in predicting stock market trading values? Currently I'm using the smooth.spline but are there any others used in practice? Do I find the mathematical formulations of R-functions somewhere (I now I could deduct it from the source code algorithms but ...)? Of the smooth.spline() for example? Thank

Converence/Meetme with Manager API
Hello! I am having problems figuring out how to do something, and any help would be much appreciated. I would like to use the manager API to take an existing call on a specific SIP extension, dial and conference in a third party. From what I can tell, the way to do this would be to take the two original parties on the call and stick them in a meetme room using Redirect with ExtraChannel,

ks.test
Dear R-List members, I want to check if a set of measurements follows better a gamma or a lognormal distribution (see data below). Using shapiro.test I can test for normality (shapiro.test(log (Lt)). To test for gamma (and normal) distribution I would use ks.test but I need to specify its shape and scale. How should I calculate these values in R? I tried > Lt.fit <- glm(Lt ~ 1,

R128gain & metaflac
...eless: It's useless only because nobody uses it :) To be honest there is very little need for it today. 99%+ of replaygain tags use the newer 89dB reference and 99%+ of players expect that (at least in their latest versions), so specifying the reference loudness really is useless except for a minuscule minority of situations, and almost certainly the players in those situations don't do anything with the tag anyway. So the only real purpose of the tag would be if it said something other than 89dB. I still parse it, if present, because it does no harm. --ian
