how to counteract slowdown
Hello,
as far as I understood ext3 will more or less hog a machine when writing
away the journal. A customer is having a slowdown every 5 minues for about
30 seconds, the machine becomes more or less unusable.
This is an NFS server serving 300 Gigs spread over 2 NFS shares.
I'm wondering what would be the best course of action:
a) make the journal bigger?
b) make the journal smaller?
c) switch from ordered to writeback?
Can...

Gaps in time series.
.... say that I have data for "day" 1,2,6,7 in one time series and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 in another. How do I construct the time series and indicate the missing data for 3,4,5 as in the first series? Eventually I would like to find the difference between the two series. If the difference is series 2 minues series one, then for the indexes of 3,4,5 in the resultant difference it would just be the series 2 value. The resultant series would have a length of 7.
Thank you.

ocfs2console is slow
Ever since we have installed OCFS2, we have had extremely slow
performance in the ocfs2console. It can take us over 30 minutes to do
the simplest tasks.
We do not have this type of performance with other xwindows applications
on our server.
Does anyone have any performance improvement suggestions for the
ocfs2console?
Thanks,
Reid

ctags support for puppet
This is a quick and dirty .ctags file that makes basic navigation
possible with vim and ctags, great if you have multiple files:

Gnumeric
Hi,
I am trying to install Gnumeric in CentOS 4 and I can't. It
complains about quite a few dependencies failing. It suggested
installing some postgresql librairies, openldap librairies... I
did that, now I still get:
dependencies failed:
libmdb/libmdbsq/libsqlite/libxbase/libtds.
Is there a yum repository that has them or a yum repository for
gnumeric?
I have tried Dag, he does not, he

A/V sync. problems with NTSC DVD source
...NTSC movie.
* Using mplayer to play the YUV file into a raw YUV FIFO, as required by
the theora encoder. Using another instance of mplayer to play the PCM
audio into a WAV FIFO.
* Running the example encoder on the two FIFOs.
This is roughly the procedure which works well with PAL DVDs, except
minus the telecine/pulldown stuff. However, I find that the audio is out
by about one second per minue of video. The further into the video I
play back, the more the audio gets ahead of the video. This indicates
the detected frame rate, 23.976, is too low. If I force the

Railmail: rails plugin (http://railmail.nullstyle.com)
Hi all,
Just dropping a line here because I have recently release a plugin
that some of you might find interesting or get a little use out of. I
call it Railmail. In a nutshell, it traps any mail sent through
ActionMailer (when the delivery_method is set to :railmail), stores it
in a database, and provides an interface to view those messages.
My initial motivation for the plugin was gmail:

first of all, I'd like to report that my UPS
N-Power MEV-3000LT

which is not in the hardware compatibility list, is mostly supported
by the blazer_ser driver. I have very strong grounds to believe that
this (and other) N-Power UPS'es are rebranded for Russian and
Italian markets from their counterparts
