children of objects are not instantiated?
...ll be done in the future to change this, so I won''t discuss it again: the important is that something will be changed! 2) The "everything becomes part of the upper object" thing (sorry, couldn''t find another way to name the problem). From the article: <snip> @minersWithSqA = Miner.find_by_sql [ "SELECT m.*, g.square_area FROM gold_claims g, miners m " + " WHERE g.square_area = ? and m.gold_claim_id = g.id", 1000] The big thing to realize is that since Rails classes have dynamic fields, all columns returned by the resul...

Help: stemming and stem completion with package tm in R
Hi All I came across a problem below when doing stemming and stem completion with package tm in R. Word "mining" was stemmed to "mine" with stemDocument(), and then completed to "miners"with stemCompletion(). However, I prefer to keep "mining" intact. For stemCompletion(), the default type of completion is "prevalent", which takes the most frequent match as completion. Although "mining" is much more frequent than "miners" in my text,...

Repeated Measures, groupedData and lme
Hello I am trying to fit a REML to some soil mineral data which has been collected over the time period 1999 - 2004. I want to know if the 19 different treatments imposed, differ in terms of their soil mineral content. A tree model of the data has shown differences between the treatments can be attributed to the Magnesium, Potassium and organic mat...

SAS Enterprise Miner -- OT
Sorry for the OT query, but does anyone know if there is open-source software that can read data saved as SAS enterprise miner? We have recently received data in this format for a project and the SAS add-on is $35,000. I've searched around a bit using my friends google and r-site, but haven't found anything. So, I'm appealing to others on the list. Thanks, Harold [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Interesting ActiveRecord vs Hibernate article
For those haven''t seen it yet, Patrick Peak has an interesting article at the Server Side (www.theserverside.com) discussing the differences between the Hibernate (www.hibernate.org) peristence framework and ActiveRecord.  The article can be found here: http://www.theserverside.com/articles/article.tss?l=RailsHibernate .  Patrick Peak is the author of _Hibernate Quickly_ (Manning), which

Deformulation and R
Dear All, I hope this is not too off-topic. Essentially, I need to know if there is any R package which can help me with a deformulation project. Suppose e.g. that you know from a chemical analysis the fat, mineral, vitamin, energy [and so on] content of a certain food product. You also know the ingredients of this product (e.g. milk, lactose, vegetable oil) and you know the chemical composition of each ingredient in terms of fat, minerals, vitamins etc... At this point the question, assuming that the...

Statistical / data mining methods in R and not in SAS?
Hi, and sorry for asking such an unspecific question. Does anybody know of statistical / data mining methods that are available in R that are not in SAS ? With SAS I mean the SAS System Version 9.4 and SAS Enterprise Miner. I don't expect a complete list, just two or three examples or hints where and what to look for. I found some older comparisons, and the R methods mentioned there (GLMET, RF, ADABoost) are now supported by SAS (at least to some degree). And there exists a (massive) list of available models...

Hi, I'm Pina and I'm a student in geology. I'm working with spectral profile of sand and I have to find the similarity between one spectral profile selected by hyperspectral image anche one that I created to mix different percentage of 4 mineral component. I have to find the best mix of percentage of this 4 mineral in order to have the best likeness with the spectral profile chose by hyperspectral image. Untill now I worked with excel using the function equation solver to find the best fit but I 'd like to know if is possible do this...

Samba / Apple Spotlight Search
...Ideas would really be appreciated I try to get spotlight search running on a Samba Share running on Ubuntu 18.04 following the Howto on Samba.org. ( <https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Spotlight> https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Spotlight ) My last Problem seems to be that the libtracker-miner-2.0-dev Package, as far as I understand does not bring the 'org.freedesktop.Tracker1' but you must create a TrackerMinerProxy for it ( see <https://developer.gnome.org/libtracker-miner/stable/tracker-migrating-1-to- 2.html#id-1.4.3> https://developer.gnome.org/libtracker-miner/stabl...
