Minecraft in Wine
I'm currently running a Windows version of Minecraft in Wine (don't ask why...), and wanted to know if there was a way to configure the java virtual machine which is run in wine so as to run Minecraft in a ramdisk machine. I know if I was running a linux native version, I could use the command
Code:
java -Xmx[Memory] -Xms[Memory] -jar [/path/t...

...39;ve read information on the wiki about setting up shared mailboxes, but I want to do something that isn't really coved by the instructions I was reading there. My son (now 7 years old) has an account on the system, but doesn't use it directly. But, for things he's interested in like Minecraft, and/or the local zoo, we have given out his email address in a small number of places. What I would like to set up, both for now while he's not actually ever reading his email himself, and perhaps even for the future when we teach and/or allow for that, is for my wife and I to be able to &quo...

general info about the system... going through the FAQ
running fully patched ubuntu xenial, only nouveau drivers. If I start
minecraft, and run for a few minutes, the system locks up for about 3 minutes,
then spontaneously reboots. There are no messages I can see in any log, only
bootup messages after the event.
Using distribution packages, no xorg.conf, no trace of proprietary drivers I
can see.

exec()'ing Linux applications from Wine
...n-Steam' games so that Steam keeps track of how long I play them, and
so friends can see what games I'm playing. Basically, all of the fun
little things Steam does for you.
Typical of a Windows app, Steam will only show files that end in .exe,
so as a test, I wrote a shell script to launch Minecraft, set it
executable, and called the script test.exe. Steam successfully launches
the game! However, it then produces a message saying 'failed to launch
<appname>'.
So, however wine calls exec/execve/whatever to launch a native Linux
executable, it appears to do it in such a way that t...

Can I play any Win7 game on Linux?
...Ivy Bridge processor. I don't want any compromises in terms of what games I can play, but I can stretch about the top FPS. I can cope with having to learn command prompt. I just want compatibility.
I have Steam on my EEE PC and I want to run those games on my new, faster desktop PC, including Minecraft, Sanctum, Civ4, Crysis2, Battlefield2, any future maximum requirement game, the astronomy program Celestia, Google Earth with the graphics cards. I want to use Linux exactly for the same things as I'm using my Windows, if not exactly the same way.
I am ready to give up Win, as I've wanted...

Stereoscopic 3D in Wine?
...e. So given its foo-driver status, I'm hopeful that it will work in Wine... similar to how Zeckensack's isn't really a driver (but looks like one?) and works in Wine.
So is this a doable thing, or am I asking for too much? Obviously if the game has its own built-in steroscopic 3D, like Minecraft, the steroscopic 3D would work in Wine, but I'm asking if there is a way to make games that don't have steroscopic 3D abilities of their own become steroscopic 3D in Wine.
I have tried to install just the IZ3D driver, version 1.13 (5443), into its own Wine prefix. I'm using Wine 1.3....

Crysis on Wine? Works... kinda? help?
.... It has offered me the fastest processing out of all the OS's I've tried, and it just works, with every PC!
I first started using it for my Java servers. It was phenomenal, no issues, extremely fast. Then I eventually switched my main OS to puppy.
I modded and played a game called 'Minecraft', another java based game... That was also, phenomenal. My suped up Nvidia graphcis card served well. Then I started to get into windows gaming with wine. It took me a while to realize I had to map my CD drive to get my disks to work, but so far i've gotten a few to work.
