sound oddity on C6

say I'm using X (which is pretty normal these days) and I have VLC
playing a "radio" station.
I do CTRL-ALT-Fx to switch to a text console THAT HAS NO ONE LOGGED IN
on it, and voila:
no sound!

Subject: Milestone: 10000 packages on CRAN
Continuing the tradition to post millennia milestones on CRAN:
So, it happened. Today (January 27, 2017 PCT) CRAN reached 10,000 packages [1].
Needless to say, the rate with which new packages are added to CRAN
keeps increasing and so does the number of contributors (maintainers).
Somewhere out there, there are ~3 persons who are about to...

Using two subnets to change network configuration
Problem: My network uses the 192.168.1.0/24 network. Since is the most common network in all of the world it begins presenting problems when I want to set up vpns, or try to do
other routing.
The solution: Change the network from 192.168.1.0/24 to 172.24.24.0/22. This is somewhere in the middle of the less frequently used RFC-1918 20 bit private network range. My
network contains 40 or so

nMDS with R: missing values
...the rows and taxa as the columns. Time period adds a third dimension that could be added as blocks of rows. For example, depending on the resolution of your data, one approach would be to have up to 8 rows for each locality: Loc1.1000, Loc1.2000, . . . Loc1.8000. If a locality did not have certain millennia represented you would just leave them out.

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend?
I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap.
As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives.
As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would
