Do I need NETBIOS/NETBEUI on windows clients when samba is my PDC
Hi,
I replaced my old Windows NT box runnig as PDC with a Cobolt Qube 3 and
Samba-2.2.2-C1.
Cobalt Linux version is 2.2.16C33_III+VPN.
With the WinNT as PDC, all windows client's in the network had only
TCP/IP protocol installed and
they were able to browse the network and see each other.
With Samba running as PDC, TCP/IP only is not enough to browse the
network. I had to install NETBIOS

can browse/copy/delete file from samba's shares but can't print
Hi,
We installed Linux 8 with Samba 2.2.5-10. Sambe gets the network pc's
names and passwords from our PDC-windows NT machine.
In samba.cfg we have:
security=server
password server = xxxxxxxx (ip address of our PDC)
We have a printer on that machine and we want to share it in the network.
W2000 machines print on that printer without problem. However when we
tried to add the printer on

cannot get a list of Win2000/NT shares using SMBCLIENT -L with anonymous login
Hi folks,
From my RedHat Linux box Im using
smbclient L
to obtain the list of
shares on a particular computer in the network. I use
guest
as user
name or just omit the user name.
I can get the list of shares on every single Linux or Win9X machines in
the network but I cannot obtain the list of shares on Win2000 and Win NT
machines.
Here is what I tried:
[user1@linuxbox user1]$ smbclient
