Setting up Winbindd on 3.x
While I haven't gotten to the part that necessarily pertains to samba, I
figured people on here may have tried to set this up before
I'm trying to connect my freebsd 5.x server to a windows 2003 server. I
have been using this tutorial

get this
minubian# ldapsearch
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Can't contact LDAP server (-1)
I can ping the host specificed in ldap.conf and verified that port 636

winbind uid range missing or invalid
Hello ... I am trying to run winbindd on my SuSE LINUX V8 system. When I
start windbindd I eventually get the following message:
'winbind uid range missing or invalid'
then winbindd ends. I noticed that I am not the only person getting this
message. When I search "google.com" for this message, many others are
getting this message. However I have not found any answers

turn off NBT
Hi,
I tried to turn off Netbios over TCP/IP by adding this to
[global] session in smb.conf
disable netbios = yes
After restarting samba smbd is still listing on TCP 139.
Is this normal? Or did I missed anything?
Thanks.
Regards,
Dil Lee

mount.cifs and kerberos
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Sorry if this is a stupid question...:)
I have successfully mounted windows 2003 shares on linux using mount.cifs. I see
from packet traces that smb signing is enabled and working (signing is
set to mandatory on the win2k3 server). So I mount like this:
$ mount.cifs //server/share -o nosuid,user=admin

net ads join / kinit /.conf syntax
Hi.
HELP!
I read:
:-)
http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/domain-member.html#domain-member-server
(Which notes, "This is a rough guide to setting up Samba-3 with Kerberos
authentication against a Windows 200x KDC. A familiarity with Kerberos is
assumed." Is there "A guide to familiarity with Kerberos as a primer for
Samba configuration" somewhere?)

Log shows NT4 for an ADS domain
I'm trying to learn about the interactions between SAMBA and win2k DCs. The
eventual goal is to have a Win2k server with ADS working with a freeBSD
SAMBA server. I've used the setup from
http://oslabs.mikro-net.com/fbsd_samba.html as the basis for what I've done
so far. Winbind seems to work and I can show users and groups using wbinfo
although I see some things in the logs that I haven't been able to figure
out.
I'm using a native Win2k ADS domain, but when winbindd is starting up my lo...

PAM authentication with winbind and AD
...rm. Not much choice), I like to centralize all logins into AD which is currently mixed 2003/2008 DCs. To achieve this with FreeBSD, I have been using the following instructions since FreeBSD 6.1 and Samba 3.0 with the exception that I built all the ports through the ports collection:
http://oslabs.mikro-net.com/fbsd_samba.html
It has always worked for several years through FreeBSD 7.1 and Samba 3.2 with the current AD structure but recently I decided to upgrade the Samba port and now I am having issues. To troubleshoot, I have setup a clean install of FreeBSD 8.1 with the follow ports built with...

bending openssh output
Hi there.
I am not sure if this is the right place to address my question, but I
need someone how knows about the channel system of openssh. At the
moment, I try to modify the openssh source to fit to my needs. Therefore
I modified the openssh source so it can be called from my source like a
function (simply changed "void main()" to "void ssh()"). This works

[OT] Fyodor terminates SCO nmap rights -- how about Samba?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
As you all may know Fyodor of nmap fame has terminated SCO's
rights to distribute namp with its products. See:
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/02/27/1077676955381.html
I know this is off-topic, but I am interested in opinions
on the subject of SCO using Samba in it's products while they declare
the GPL is unconstitutional and invalid.
