Beware - Yum 3.5 to 3.6 upgrade replaces named.conf
You get so used to yum upgrades going so smoothly but
I learned the hard way to always make a thorough
inspection after a yum update. I let yum go ahead and
upgrade from 3.5 to 3.6. Afterwards I made some basic
queries to httpd, postfix and bind named (probably a
cached query). I even checked the /var/named/
directory and saw all my hosts files.
So looked like another smooth ride, well until

alias keeps changing
Hi, I have a problem when adding a second NIC card.
It will not configure to eth1 and keeps changing its
device name on reboot to dev and a number, like
dev8761.
I tried changing BIOS setting, plug/play on/off and
forcing IRQ for PCI slots. But no difference.

Centos 5.0 Intel G33/P35 Chipset Support (Asus P5K-VM, P5KC)
I have 2 new boxes that I cannot use yet because of
problems supporting these newer chipsets in 5.1. Does
anyone know when the CD version of 5.0 x86-64 that has
support for these chipsets be available on any on a
Centos mirror?
Has the support for these chipsets been added to yum
yet?
Here are my latest results with these chipsets and

Multi-homed faq or docs needed
I tried to implement a multi-homed box using this faq

But it says table is invalid. Can someone tell me
what the difference is in Centos? I assume the FAQ is
leaving out how to add tables to the iproute files?

Postfix on Centos3.3
Hi, as far as security advisories from Redhat I only
see the last update to Postfix being 9/2/04
2.0.16-14.RHEL3.
Centos3.3 however added a newer version that I am
currently using which matches the last 2.0 version
official release at postfix.org.

Since I am running this as my public smtp server it
makes me wonder why Redhat

Up2date Unknown GPG signatures
I just ran up2date on new Centos-3.1 installation and

The package kernel-utils-2.4-8.37.3 is signed with an

Up2date confusion
Hi, I installed 3.1 from CD and ran up2date without
changing /etc/sysconfig/rhn/rhn-source. Checking some
of the files it appears I have all the updates
including the updates from the last few weeks.
However up2date for some reason shows that I still
need to update and lists old and current files in the
list of available updates.
Any idea why this is so and how to fix it?

up2date-4.2-33-1.centos.3.1
After installing from CD I ran up2date and it looks
like I got everything updated.
For some reason the up2date icon stays red and tells
me that I have up2date-4.2-33-1.centos.3.1 installed
but latest version is up2date-4.5.1.centos.3.1 which
is the old version of up2date.
All the files it wants me to up2date to are the old
files. Is this normal for Centos and will it correct

apt repositories
Hi, does anyone have plans on adding an apt
repository? I used apt-get with Synaptic RH8 with

manage compared to yum/up2date.
Freshrpms provides some instructions here:

Unfortunately I do not have the bandwidth to offer it
myself.
btw - does anyone have an idea why up2date says it

Centos 5.2 and 2.6.18-92 Kernel backported SATA fixes?
Last year to get motherboards with the G33 chipset with SATA working with Centos I had to either use David Harbic fixes or use Fedora 8 since it had the later 2.6.25 kernel.
I no longer see David's fixes available and also see in the 5.2 release notes "update SATA driver and infrastructure". Did Redhat finally incorporate fixes to full support the new G33 chipset and SATA?

I tried using applydeltaiso and it creates a 2gb ISO
but I notice it fails on applying.

all-generic-ide irqpoll
Without irqpoll it just hangs and without
all-generic-ide it get a kernel panic. So I still
need both to recognize the disk and continue booting.
