CentOS on the HP MicroServer
I'm been running two HP MicroServers as home-servers under CentOS-5.6
for 2 months, and have been very happy with their performance.
I'm wondering if there are many other MicroServer/CentOS users around?
I've been surprised when looking at the MicroServer forums

...a card that will fit this machine.
As far as I can see, it requires a half-height PCIe card,
which seems to be rather a rare animal.
(There doesn't seem to be a standard for the backplate.)
So I'm wondering if anyone has tried this?
Incidentally, is there a forum anywhere
for users of the MicroServer under Linux?
(The machine is unbelievably cheap at the moment,
due to a bizarre cashback offer from HP.)

CentOS 5.5 x64, HP ProLiant Microserver and eSATA
Hello all.
Not sure how many people here also frequent the CentOS forums, so apologies for the 'cross post'.
I know some here are using CentOS on HP's ProLiant Microserver, so if anyone's tried eSATA on their box, please let me know. Perhaps best to reply over at the forum - https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=31558&forum=39

Any experience with lanner appliances?
Hi,
anybody has installed CentOS on an lanner appliance...?
Eg. http://www.lannerinc.com/products/all-purpose-box-computers/industrial-automation/lec-2126
I was planning to buy an hp microserver to make a "small" CentOS firewall (and more since it is overpowered), but I am wondering if I could go for a lot smaller and with no fan/noise... but at the same time a bit more expensive...
Thx,
JD

My HP Microserver N40L (the original version), the NIC is Broadcom,
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetXtreme BCM5723
Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10)
and its MAC is A0:B3:CC:xx:xx:xx

CentOS-7.2 kernel panic
My HP MicroServer crashes with a kernel panic
when booted into kernel-3.10.0-327.3.1.el7.x86_64,
but runs perfectly under kernel-3.10.0-229.20.1.el7.x86_64 .
I've been trying to save the panic message with kdump,
but am not sure how one can configure kdump to do this,
if indeed that is possible.

A query on graphic console
I'm only getting a text console with CentOS-7.2
on my (oldish) HP MicroServer.
The only explicit error I see in Xorg.0.log
is that no driver is found for my Pixart USB optical mouse.
My query is: would that be sufficient
to prevent a graphic console?
Incidentally, I can use X apps, eg xpdf,
if I ssh in from my laptop.
As always, any advice gratefully received.

OT hard disk geometry
My only excuse for asking this question here
is that I am running CentOS-6.5 on my HP MicroServer.
I recently purchased a 2TB WD hard drive (WD20ESRX),
and was surprised to find that the power-connector on this drive
did not seem to be in the correct place for the drive-bay.
(The drive bay closes, but the disk does not spin.)
The power connector on the drive is further from the SATA connect...

CentOS-6 by PXEboot?
Has anyone succeeded in installing CentOS-6.0 by PXEboot.
If so, would you say how you did it, please.
I tried (on an HP MicroServer),
but gave up in the end and used a USB stick installation instead.
But I'd be very interested to know how to do it, for the future.
Unfortunately I didn't keep a proper note of my PXEboot attempt,
but IIRC the problem was that install.img was not found,
although I had links to it in se...

OT Strange IP address on home network
Sounds like you have a host with a NIC that's configured for DHCP but
either can't communicate with the DHCP server, or there are no free IPs for
the DHCP server to give it.

Problem with AT&T VPN
I'm running a CentOS-5.6 server,
which in general runs perfectly.
My setting is possibly a little unusual:
ADSL -> Billion 5200S RC modem/router -> CentOS-5.6 HP MicroServer
-> Linksys WRT54GL router .
My daughter is just visiting me,
and she has to contact her job using AT&T VPN
on her laptop under Windows XP.
Unfortunately this does not work on my system
when connected to the Linksys router by WiFi or ethernet.
More precisely, the IBM Lotus "sameti...

Using a CentOS 6 Machine as a gateway/router/home server

indeed, I use pfSense, running on a APU1D4 [1] router board as my
firewall, and a separate home server on a HP Microserver [2]. IMHO,
keeping the firewall function completely separate simplifies security.
that router board can handle 300 Mbit/sec of NAT firewall rules, since I
only have 30Mbit internet, thats plenty of headroom. the Microserver
has 4x3 TB SATA drives in a raidZ (ZFS) for 7.5 TiB usable.
I can...

CentOS-6 firewall how to open a port
I'm running CentOS-6 on an HP MicroServer (since this morning)
and I'd like to open an non-standard port,
for use on a laptop attached to the internet through the server.
Do I have to explicitly add an iptables rule?
If so, and I want to open (say) udp port 500 ,
what command should I give?
I've always used shorewall in the pa...

You should be able to use nmap to scan the device.
