Strange problem with X11 forwarding...
...15 on the server side.
I've got DSA and RSA keys defined for both systems but I'm
connecting using RSA keys for my identity.
I've enabled X11 forwarding on both the client and server side.
When I connect to the other side and run an X app, I get two errors
and it fails.
Example:
[mhw at alcove mhw]$ ssh canyon
Last login: Mon May 15 05:41:07 2000 from alcove.wittsend.com
[mhw at canyon mhw]$ xterm
channel 0: istate 4 != open
channel 0: ostate 64 != open
X connection to canyon:10.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
[mhw at canyon mhw]$ echo $DISPLAY

Openssh-2.1.0p1 test release
This to announce a test release of 2.1.0p1 before making it widely
available.
This release includes many fixes to problems reported over the last
week. In particular:
- spurious error and coredumps caused by the inbuilt entropy gathering
- RSAref detection
- Compilation fixes for Solaris and others
It also contains (completely untested) support for compiling without
RSA support. This may be

What keeps logging to my console?
Hi folks,
I have lots of messages like these appearing on my local CentOS 5.2
consoles:
> Oct 17 12:03:29 machine kernel: printk: 1 messages suppressed.
> Oct 17 12:03:29 machine kernel: pbond0: received packet with own address
as source address
I have disabled console logging in syslog.conf, and even if I shut down
syslog and kernel logger, the messages keep coming on the local

We do not use IDEA in OpenSSH anymore, it is patented in most
countries. Your private key is encrypted with it, change the
passphrase with the old ssh to nothing, then change the passphrase with

Video interview with Eben Moglen.
Hi all,
Hope this isn't off-topic, but I thought the lists
might be interested in a video interview I did with Eben
Moglen, the head of the Software Freedom Law Center. Eben
has given legal advice and help for Samba for many years,
and is a very interesting person to listen to.
Hope people find this enjoyable:

Anyone with some thoughts?

[Possibly OT] - General question: state of internet traffic
Greetings,
I've read reports that there has been degradation in Internet traffic over
the last month. Until today, I haven't experienced any. However, getting
bank record data from chase.com here in NYC seems impossible.
I also noticed erratic ftp behavior today; connections can be made but
data can't be transferred. This isn't consistent, though.
(I have a machine in LA while

inittab - huh what's it good for?
We run a CentOS-5 based hylafax server with external serial modems. We
are transitioning to an Asterisk system using IAXmodem running on
CentOS-6.
On the CentOS-5 system to start the fax modems we added these lines to
inittab:
# Add fax lines and always ALWAYS run "telinit q" after making a change.

run the existing vmdk images I already have. But, I have some
questions about accessing the virt-manager console remotely for
initial configuration, etc.. Normally I use freenx for remote GUI

Little list of horrors.

I was investigating the SMB signing problems between Win2k

if there were any hotfix patches for Win2k that were post service

[smbfs] Timing problems with kernel 2.2.x?

Hi!
To maintain and install packages from CD-ROM to my Debian/GNU Linux
system, I use Debian's apt package. Since my Linux box is stowed away
in a closet, I use an smbfs mount to mount the CD-ROM drive from my
Windows desktop machine to the Linux box.

CAST5 encryption
Hello all,
I was wondering if CAST5 encryption is currently being added the
openssh? It's a steller block cipher. No one's found any weaknesses
in it yet and it's free for non profit use.
