I've recently added a tool to Mezzanine (www.kainx.org/mezzanine/)
called "specgen" for generating spec files from source tarballs. You
might want to give that a try. And if you have any problems, let me
know so I can fix them. :)

Non-native codecs - MELPe?
Has anyone needed a coded that Asterisk does not natively support, such
as MELPe or CVSD? If so, did you find a pure software solution and
provided that as an addition to Asterisk? Was that solution successful?
Has using an I/F card with a DSP proved to be the better solutions? We
are beginners with Asterisk so any help/advice on how to best implement
non-native Codecs into Asterisk will be

Issues/thoughts re CentOS-4
...en the CentOS-4 beta yet so I don't know if any
of this is already done. If these have been discussed on IRC then
perhaps someone could produce a shot summary of the outcomes....?
* Just call it CentOS-4 not 4.1 etc. Too confusing and serves no real
purpose
* All modified rpm should use mezzanine or equiv. This makes it easier
to track changes, build updates and generate a report on what has changed.
* Modified rpm should have .c4.n added to the release
- c4 = centos 4. (works well once the 4.1 is dropped)
- .n = a number starting at 1. The spec only 0 does not scale if you
need to ma...

Best way to give guest promiscuous interface?
I am using CentOS 5.5 with KVM as a host and have a need for one guest
to be able to have promiscuous read access to one port on the physical
host (which is an HP BL460 G6 blade server with Intel 2 port 1Gb
ethernet mezzanine card.)
I initially tried to use PCI passthrough, but I was unable to get it
to work. I set everything up as documented in RHEL documentation
(http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5/html/Virtualization/chap-Virtualization-PCI_passthrough.html,
but I got the following error mes...

Consistency regarding compiled Cortado 0.6.0 sourceand the official binary
It should probably not be necessary in my case to compile a custom version of the Cortado applet-the official binary works fine, and may be advantageous over a locally-compiled version (regarding compatibility with 1.1-era JVMs), as was mentioned in a previous message. My interest was to include the corresponding source code when distributing the official binary (i.e. as would be required for

[CentOS-devel] Re: Issues/thoughts re CentOS-4 (fwd)
...releases.
It means that the version of centos-release rpm will always be 4 , but the
contents will probably say 4 (4.0) or somesuch.
This is necessary to know what version people have installed (or at least
what version they have (attempted to) upgraded to.

That needs someone to sort it out ... and all developers to be up to speed
with the packages ...

Hi all,

RDF Metadata Specification
I've put together the first attempt to defining an RDF metadata
vocabulary for use with the CD Index/MusicBrainz/OggVorbis. If you care
about metadata issues, please take a look at:
http://www.cdindex.org/MM
I've included a section for video specific stuff, but everything that I
originally had in there is being covered by the MM:Contributors section.

Best 1.5TB drives for consumer RAID?
Which consumer-priced 1.5TB drives do people currently recommend?
I had zero read/write/checksum errors so far in 2 years with my trusty old Western Digital WD7500AAKS drives, but now I want to upgrade to a new set of drives that are big, reliable and cheap.
As of Jan 2010 it seems the price sweet spot is the 1.5TB drives.
As I had a lot of success with Western Digital drives I thought I would

Consistency regarding compiled Cortado 0.6.0 source and the official binary
(I previously sent this message (minus some slight edits) to theora-dev at xiph dot org, but it did not seem to show up in the archives. I do not know if one has to be subscribed in order to post messages.)
Among other things, this message concerns the compilation of the downloaded source code for version 0.6.0 of the Cortado Java applet. (the source was probably from a file that was originally
