Mathematical niceties
I'd like to make axis titles, chart titles, legends and the like mathematically nice (e.g., have proper superscripts and subscripts, variables in italics, and so on). Ideally, one could go into ``math mode" a la LaTeX, and write something like plot(blah, xlab="Methane in $\mbox{cm}^3$ / g", blah). This is just an ideal, but it would be nice. Is some approximation of this functionality available in R (or indeed, in S Plus)? Thanks a lot, Steve Stephen R. Laniel | "Every time she sneezes Carnegie Mellon University | I believe it...

CT unit to drill on Mars, Revenue Up 200% - Ref. jh010 (PR#8918)
...ee market growth for coiled tubing services to independent producers in three areas: fracturing, particularly multiple interval completions; re-entry drilling of horizontal laterals or vertical extensions in older wells; and "grassroots" drilling of shallower wells, including many coalbed methane wells." surveyable Rike adds that one of the most important reasons for growth of coiled tubing drilling services has been the development of more integrated units. "In past years, coiled tubing units were not able to provide the sort of integrated set of equipment capabilities needed for...

RFC: removing hardcoded "modprobe blktap" in xencommons
Hi Jan Back before 4.3 release you complaint about the hardcoded modprobe for blktap / blktap2 in xencommons script. I started to look into it this week and tried to do this modprobe automatically in libxl (that''s the idea we discussed before 4.3 IIRC). Unfortunately I didn''t manage to find any canonical documents on how a user space process can trigger a modprobe.

Does Berkeley DB and Rails seem like a good match?
I''ve been reading up on Berkeley DB and I''ve been refelcting on the Rails philosophy and it just seemed to me like the two should go together hand in glove. Rails seeks to abstract the programer from squirrely database coding which is great. My only problem is that you''re still left with a large component, namely the databsase server (MySQL, PostgreSQL..etc) which

question about glm vs. loglin()
Dear R gurus, I am looking for a way to fit a predictive model for a contingency table which has counts. I found that glm( family=poisson) is very good for figuring out which of several alternative models I should select. But once I select a model it is hard to present and interpret it, especially when it has interactions, because everything is done "relative to reference cell". This

Testing modules
There''s definitely enough complexity in some of the modules out there to warrant solid test coverage, especially if people start extending a module to support more distributions and OSes, while trying to keep the existing support working. That''s even before you start thinking about functions, facts, and native types. They''re *really* in need of solid testing, being all
