Missing values in time series
...or this - I'm sure I'm missing something somewhere...
I've got a time series with several of missing values in it that I want
to torture with R. But ts doesn't like the NA's, and I can't find any
documentation telling me what to do about it.
Help!

Extracting vectors from matrices
...e observed responses, and I want to extract the probabilities for the
observed responses.
As a toy example, if I have
x <- matrix(c(1,2,3,4,5,6),2,3)
y <- c(1,3)
and I want to extract the numbers in x[1,1] and x[2,3] (the columns
being indexed from y), what do I do?

Fonts on Windows devices
...<- 4
par(font=XX); plot(1,1, xlab="Thing")
gives me the same font whatever value of XX I use. So, can I change the
font? And if so, how?
Normally I would switch to drawing the graph in Postscript, but my
collaborator's computer won't handle it.
TIA

"New" problem with polr (or optim, or ...)
Hello from a presently sunny Helsinki!
I've bee trying to repeat an analysis I did about 18 months ago (the
reviewers of the paper want something adding to it). I'm using R1.5.0,
but I couldn't see anything in the list of changes between this and
1.5.1 to suggest it would act any differently.
The data is observational, on the changes in the population status of
carabid beetles, and

can't find out what will work.

I'm sure this problem has a well know and obvious solution, but it's not
so well known or obvious to me.
Thanks in advance.
