Hi list, I've made a new CentOS 5 install with all updates. My users are sored in a ldap directory. If i reboot the machine, CentOs hangs at: starting messagebus I found the same problem at Fedora 5. The solution should be to change "etc/init.d/ladp" from 27 to 21 so it starts before messagebus (22) So is this the "right" solution or is there a other way? On a ldap enabled CentOS 6.3 x64 system, I try to make it so home directories are auto-created. I added this : session required pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0077 to my /etc/pam.d/system-auth And it does nothing. I restarted messagebus (I've seen references to that) and sshd, and logs don't mention anything in regards to pam_mkhomedir... Any hints ?

Can someone explain to me the logic that I, as a user, cannot, by default, mount a DVD from the command line, but I can mount it via dolphin? mark

...ot;side grade" on a client's machine freom FC2 to Centos4.2. I am not seeing the eggcups printer icon appear when the user sends a print job. One problem was that I had to copy /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession.rpmnew into place so that the DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS variable got set correctly. The messagebus service is running, as well as hal. There is a notification area in the panel. I can manually start eggcups and not get an error. (It returns 0). But it immediately exits, and no printer icon. Am I missing something? I'm not particularly familiar with eggcups and its required configs....

...39;m cutting down from a less minimal starting place. I'm pretty familiar with 5.x, but what I'm finding in 6.2 is a lot of new stuff, and a lot of odd behavior. For example, cups is starting at boot time, despite being disabled by chkconfig. And I'm finding things like qpidd, matahari, messagebus, and portreserve that really don't belong in a minimal setup. To clarify, I'm shooting for a simple config, like one would use for a dedicated DNS server. I have a troubling circumstance. I've installed a new domain member running Slackware64 14.2. This computer is practically a clone of another domain member I've had set up and running for over a year. Most everything seems to work.
