Benchmark results
...system (and confirms the rumours I've heard that Linux
> + Samba outperform NT with more than 12 users).
My employer will want to know more about the system, disk config, memory
config... of the NT system this test was run on. Is this info available?

No network neighborhood
Recently, we made a switch from 1.9.18 to 2.0.3.
Under 1.9.18, we had local master turned off to prevent a
browser election war. However, under some network configurations,
(where the system was alone on a Workgroup), the system would, quite
appropriately, not appear in the network neighborhood.
So for 2.0.3 we changed the config file to allow election participation
(local master = yes).

Hi all,
For people who are looking for some objective
numbers to help recommend Samba to their employers (I
know there are some of you on this list :-) you might
want to look at the following couple of articles.
The first one is in Smart Reseller (a USA trade press

Unix/NT file conversion problems
Hi
We are having some problems - the majority of our files require ascii
transfers between our unix servers and PCs. They are however being
transferred as binary for some reason even though they are just plain
text files. This means (when going from unix to pc) the files come down
without a carriage return at the end of lines. And when going from pc to
unix they end up with ^M on the end of each

CANNOT BROWSE (the solution)
Hi all.
I?m using the binary distribution of SAMBA 1.9.16 on SCO3.2v4.2.
Last weekend we got a new server. Installed all applications and all
worked fine (as expected) ...
but:
the win/nt clients could map the shares, but they could not browse the
SAMBA-box!
I checked the "browseable=" options, but everything looked ok.

No automatic refresh?
Hi!
I've been struggling with this install of Samba 2.0.4b on Linux/x86 2.0.36.
All of the client machines run Windows NT 4, SP 3.
I'm exporting /tmp as pub, and if I right click in the folder and create
a new folder, it doesn't show up until I go to 'view' and 'refresh'.
If I delete something, it doesn't go away until I refresh.
Why?

Lost Samba Browse ability from some NT boxes
Hi folks,
Everything has worked great until recently when some NT boxes are no
longer able to browse the Samba Server. I can still map samba drives by
specifying the exact path, using Find Computer in NT Explorer, or NET
USE use from the command prompt.
Most boxes are still fine. No change occured with NT, AIX, or smb.conf
when this happened. I tried increasing os level to 34, and specifying
