...heck_prior() when using --append
Product: rsync

Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: core
AssignedTo: wayned@samba.org
ReportedBy: stef@memberwebs.com
QAContact: rsync-qa@samba.org
Seems like rsync 3.0.0 daemon process will assert when using --append under
certain circumstances.
* This worked in 2.9.6.
* Removing the --append option avoids the assertion.
* Tried to make a test case using less rsync options, but the

jailutils security issue, and possible issue with 'jail'
Since some of you use the jailutils package, I just wanted to post some
additional info on the recent 'security fix' and also highlight a
possible issue with the 'jail' command.
http://memberwebs.com/nielsen/freebsd/jails/jailutils/security.html
It's not a very big issue (unless I'm missing something), simply one of
leaking the host environment into the jail.
This might be used legitimately in certain cases, but in most cases it's
probably a good idea to clear out the enviro...

kern.chroot_allow_open_directories
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
The chroot(2) man page describes a sysctl called
'kern.chroot_allow_open_directories' which controls whether a process
can chroot() and is already subject to the chroot() syscall.
It seems that this sysctl can be trivially changed from within a
chroot'd process (ie: if that process has superuser privileges).
Is this sysctl meant to

ftp.freebsd.org out of date? (WRT security advisories)
It seems (at least for me) the patches on ftp.freebsd.org are out of
date for the 03:12 security advisory (openssh). ftp2.freebsd.org has
them fine.
I'm wondering if this is a mirror issue or perhaps round-robin DNS problem?
What compounds the issue is that right now the old openssh 3.7 patches
are there (on ftp.freebsd.org), but not the 3.7.1 patches (which can be
found on

Is the server portion of freebsd-update open source?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I'm wondering if/where I can get the server side component for
freebsd-update. Presumably such a component would build and sign the
binary patches and prepare them to be served via HTTP to the
freebsd-update client.
I need a system for distributing binary updates to a collection of
customized FreeBSD machines, jails, and embedded systems.
