Is ext4 safe for a production server?
I am about to install a new server running CentOS 5.4. The server will contain pretty critical data that we can't afford to corrupt. I would like to benefit from the extra speed and features of a ext4 filesystem but I don't have any experience with it. Is there some member of the list who can enlighten me on whether ext4 is mature enough to be used on a production server without too

LDAP Examples
I'm struggling with trying to create a unified, ldap-backed for my home network. I have an existing directory that handles my posix logins correctly and I'm able to auth smb users against those accounts, but I'm not able to join any machines to the directory. It would be profoundly helpful to see a ldif dump of a working configuration. Surely others have created similar setups at home

OT? File order on CentOS/Samba server
I hope someone familiar with the way Linux processes files can enlighten me on the following: I recently replaced an old Windows 2000 server with a new machine running CentOS 5.2. It uses Samba 3.2.7 to serve a network of Windows XP clients. We are a newspaper. How to force Winbind to use port 445 to talk to Windows Active Directory
...block samba from listening for connections on port 139. However, in my case I don't see any incoming traffic on port 139 rather the winbind daemon on my samba server tries to connect to the Active Directory Domain Controller on port 139. File server as host for a Windows Server VM?
I hope that someone here can give some advice on the following: I have a Samba based Active Directory. A CentOS 7.6 machine runs as a file server and hosts the Windows user profiles for all the Windows workstations. Now management has decided that they need a Windows server for a couple of administrative applications, which need MS SQL Server. That would be the only role of this Windows.

GPO administration right on the station for ordinary user
The Wiki page you pointed to describes a modification to the *Default Domain Policy*. This is probably why you never met the issue I described. As I reported on my previous post, the Default Domain Policy was the only one that kept working after the Microsoft update. All the other GPOs that I had set stopped being applied.

Winbind backend : rid is too much underappreciated
I just came to the conclusion that the rid backend has been very much underappreciated. Too much mental inertia about how things used to be made? After strugling for two days to configure a member server against a Samba Active Directory with the ad/RFC2307 backend, I turned to the rid backend and voil?! all my problems are gone. Having to manually edit uids/gids in UNIX Attributes under RSAT

Problems building Samba documentation
I have been trying to build Samba 4.3.4 from source. Everything goes fine except for the documentation.
