Browsing between linux boxes
...s accessing as david:david, and I wondered if the group was part
of the problem. /Public was initiall anne:users, though I have now changed
it to root:users.
Any suggestions for troubleshooting would be gratefully received.

Functioning Samba Install has one desktop causing a complaint ...
... On a LAN consisting of a box with Linux 2.4.21-138-smp using Samba version 2.2.5-UL, all the boxes can log in and see the shares (windoz xp, 2000, me - all smbpasswords set to none), except one that is windoz98. Attempts to connect get "IPC$" login messages. The box that gets the message has a directory/password/smbpassword (set to none) on the Linux machine.

Permission on sharing file/folder
Dear All Friends,
Im already explore with UNIX permission, currently what I can see is only
have read,write and execute. We also can combine this permission with
grouping.
But what I seek here, how can I set permission that user can't delete file
but can modify the file ?
Windows can do it.
That the problem I have from windows2k to samba migration.
Anyone have any idea?

1. I rarely ever do upgrades. Since I keep good backups, I almost
always do clean installs. Keeps me honest with the backups for one
thing. Anyway, under these conditions Mandriva will sometimes assume

Authentication problem?

I've run around in circles. Can anyone give me hints or a troubleshooting
scheme for this? I've tried the obvious, like checking that ping works both
by ip and name.

at 68.538988 yet it is 90 seconds from the start before I get control back.
I'll gladly run any more tests required, but as a newbie to ethereal I shall

Samba help
Hi,
I have a network in my room with three computers right now, two connected to a Lynksys router, that router is connected to a wider network, then to the internet.
The three computers i have in my room are:
laptop running Windows Server 2003, connected to a wireless router
desktop running Windows Server 2003, connected to the router in my room
desktop running Mandrake 9.2 connected to the router
