md5secret, secret and ha1b hash calculation?
...he following:
- if secret is configured, and an auth header comes in with
auth_user="user at realm", does Asterisk internally make the H(A1b)
calculation instead of H(A1) from the secret it has for the user?
- if yes, does that mean it would be relatively easy to add an extra
parameter, md5secretb for example, that mimics ha1b and allows cleartext
secrets to be abolished?
- what has been observed in practice? Are there any devices actively
behaving like this or is it purely a legacy thing?
In repro, we decided to store both versions of every hash when a user is

Bug in Dial() string processing
Hi.
I've discovered a bug in the Dial() string processing (for Asterisk 13.14.1 at
least).
According to the documentation in channels/chan_sip.c the Dial() string syntax
is:
* SIP/devicename
* or SIP/username at domain (SIP uri)
* or SIP/username[:password[:md5secret[:authname[:transport]]]]@host[:port]
* or SIP/devicename/extension
* or SIP/devicename/extension/IPorHost
* or SIP/username at domain//IPorHost
*
* and there is an optional [!dnid] argument you can append to alter the
* To: header.
The bug is in the last part - the optional !dnid argument....

chan_sip + MD5 encryption: WARNING Format for authentication entry is user[:secret]@realm
Hi all!
So far I've always used plaintext passwords for SIP, but now I've decided
to use MD5 encryption.
For each client I edited its section as follows, then:
auth=md5
md5secret=hashed_passwd
;secret=plaintext_passwd
where hashed_passwd is the output of
echo -n "user:realm:plaintext_passwd" | md5sum
When the first SIP clients registers with Asterisk after a "sip reload" the
following warning is logged:

how to decrypt encrypted SIP user's secret
Dear all,
My office have an old asterisk PBX system (asterisk 11.4), and it encrypt
all the SIP User's secret.
But the voip engineer before me didn't save / documented those password.
Now the server's hardware is begin to broke, it hangs a lot, and have a lot
of call problem.
We already have a new asterisk PBX to replace it, but we have difficulty to
retrieve the encrypted password.

Asterisk <------- Quintum SIP Registration
Hi All
I'm trying with no luck to connected the Quintum D series Gateway with
the new SIP release to asterisk.
Have anyone done this?
If yes then how should I configure the sip.conf to accept the registration?
maybe a sample config?
Thanks

SIP and MD5 passwords.
...'m using Grandstream phones with Asterisk.
If I have something like this:
[102]
username=102
secret=hello
restofconfig
Then authentication works fine.
However both the following cases seem to fail.
[102]
username=johnblogs
authuser=johnblogs
secret=hello
restofconfig
or
[102]
username=102
md5secret=longmd5digest
restofconfig
In order to get my md5secret I'm doing
echo -n '102:asterisk:hello' | md5sum
So, my two questions are:
1) Can the username be different to the sip userid?
2) Can someone please show me the exact procedures needed to use the
md5secret, including what I conf...

Sip registration question
...I'm not an expert with SIP MD5 auth in asterisk, may be true.
Right now, I'm trying to get the registration happening. On a "test" server,
we've been able to put through a call w/o registration, so it seems some of
this can be compatible.
I'm wondering if I can use "md5secret" with a "register => " statement.
The current busted config:
