solaris 10u8 hangs with message Disconnected command timeout for Target 0
Hi,
My solaris storage hangs. I login to the console and there is messages[1]
display on the console.
I can''t login into the console and seems the IO is totally blocked.
The system is solaris 10u8 on Dell R710 with disk array Dell MD3000. 2 HBA
cable connect the server and MD3000.
The symptom is random.
It is very appreciated if any one can help me out.
Regards,
Ding

Corrupt inodes on shared disk...
I am having problems when using a Dell PowerVault MD3000 with multipath
from a Dell PowerEdge 1950. I have 2 cables connected and mount the
partition on the DAS Array. I am using RHEL 4.4 with RHCS and a two
node cluster. Only one node is "Active" at a time, it creates a mount
to the partition, and if there is an issue RHCS will fence the de...

Looking for configuration suggestions
I am in the process of completely overhauling the storage setup here and
plan to go to glusterfs.
The storage involved is 8x Coraid units, 2x JetStor and a Dell MD3000.
The Coraid and JetStor are network connected via ATA over Ethernet &
iSCSI. The disks are also being upgraded to 1TB in the process. I do
plan to use unify to bring most if not all the storage together.
My first question is that since these units are over 12TB after being
RAIDed, shoul...

Migration failing (xen 3.0.3 on RHEL 5) with "not a valid guest state file: pfn count read"
...ort question: xm migrate (live or not) fails even though either host
is capable of running the VM. Error seems to be: "not a valid guest
state file: pfn count read"
Long question:
I have two boxes (devvmdevvmhost1 and devvmhost2) running xen 3.0.3
(RHEL 5), they are attached to a Dell MD3000 unit for shared storage.
I''m working on configuring live migration, and have set up a test VM
(testwww). Storage is a single LVM partition on the MD3000.
I can start the VM on either physical host (copied /etc/xen/testwww from
devvmhost1 to devvmhost2) and it works fine (obviously only r...

ZFS in front of MD3000i
We''re setting up ZFS in front of an MD3000i (and attached MD1000
expansion trays).
The rule of thumb is to let ZFS manage all of the disks, so we wanted
to expose each MD3000i spindle via a JBOD mode of some sort.
Unfortunately, it doesn''t look like the MD3000i this (though this[1]
post seems to reference an Enhanced JBOD mode......

of course, the really tricky problem is implementing an ISCSI storage
infrastructure thats fully redundant and has no single point of
failure. this requires

Looking at the various options for ext3 nothing jumps out as the obvious
one to use to improve performance.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

RAID storage - SATA, SCSI, or Fibre Channel?
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 and am looking to add more storage. I know a lot
of factors can go into the type of answer given, but for present and future
technology planning, should I look for a rack of SATA, SCSI, or fibre channel
drives? Maybe I'm dating myself with fibre channel, and possibly SCSI?
I may be looking to add a few TB now, and possibly more later.

HW experience
Hi,
we would like to establish a small Lustre instance and for the OST
planning to use standard Dell PE1950 servers (2x QuadCore + 16 GB Ram) and
for the disk a JBOD (MD1000) steered by the PE1950 internal Raid controller
(Raid-6). Any experience (good or bad) with such a config ?
thanxs,

I need storage server advice
Hi:
I need advice on implementing a storage server. I really do not have
the $ to spend for a Dell iSCSI storage divice and I am thinking
trunning CentOS 5.x with ftp or FreeNAS. Here is what I am looking at
and concerned about.
Situation:
My current storage needs are approximately 1.5 TB annually. This will
increase to about 3.5 TB annually over the next 5 years (rough est.).

compression at zfs filesystem creation
Hi,
I just installed 2009.06 and found that compression isn''t enabled by default when filesystems are created. Does is make sense to have an RFE open for this? (I''ll open one tonight if need be.) We keep telling people to turn on compression. Are there any situations where turning on compression doesn''t make sense, like rpool/swap? what about rpool/dump?
Thanks,
