LDAP Filter Problem
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one. I am having trouble
getting LDAP and samba working properly on my Debian Woody box. I am using
OpenLDAP 2.0.27-3 and the unsable packaged Samba version 2.999+3.0 and am
using the samba.schema for my LDAP database.
Whenever I try to join the network using either W2K or smbclient the LDAP
debug log shows that the following filter is being

Joining PDC w/LDAP Question
Should I be required to add the machine to my passwd file even if I am using
LDAP when joining a W2K domain domain? The only way I can get a machine to
join my Samba PDC is via the following commands.
# /usr/sbin/useradd -g 100 -d /dev/null -c "asa" -s /bin/false asa$
# smbpasswd -a -m asa
I thought that using ldapsam would lookup all machine information from LDAP
without having to

Exec file incompatible with hardware
Sorry if this is going to be one of those 'idiot' questions, but I don't
use Samba. It has always been on our server, chugging along beautifully
so no on ever had to touch it... Well, we consolidated servers and moved
everything to another server with HP-UX 10.20 (the previous server had
the same HPUX version so I thought I was in the clear), the samba
version is samba-1.9.18p2. I

OpenSSH password expiration in Solaris
I have a question regarding userid password expiration and OpenSSH. When

telnet session allows the user to enter a new password, but the user ssh
instead the password expiration is ignored and it let the user
logon.
How can I make ssh recognize that the password has expired ?. I

I am trying to upgrade from OpenSSH 3.1p1 to Openssh 3.4p1 due to the Cert
advisory and would like to know more about
the Privilege Separation. Can't find very good information on the web.
For example, I added a userid of sshd, but did not give it a home directory
or special group permissions.
Anything I need to know about creating this userid ?.

Retract sftp/scp connections.
I need some help:
I currently have userids setup under the existing false rooted ftp account
setups without shells.
I would like to convert them to use OpenSSH sftp.
Can I give them restricted shells so they can't cd to other user's
directories and only allow them to
sftp , and how do I accomplish this ?.
Also, can I use the "force" option on the authorized_keys2 file

Can't Find Password
I am running Samba 3.0 HEAD with LDAP 2.0. I have ldapsam enabled buy when
I try to log into my server from a W2K machine I get the following in my
error log:

coreutils-4.5.3-28 causing duplication?
Here's a bit of a strange one. I hunted through the ocfs-users archives,
but didn't see any mention of this, so here goes...
Using coreutils 4.5.3-27 on RHAS 3, the utilities perform as expected
against non-OCFS volumes:
$ rpm -q coreutils
coreutils-4.5.3-27
# cat a 3 line test file. Works as expected
$ cat /var/tmp/file
line1
line2
line3
# copy that file. Works as expected
$ cp

From OCFS to tape via tar (and back again)
We're using RMAN to back up our 9.2 RAC database to an OCFS v1 volume.
We have an existing shell script that we use for copying files from disk
to tape via tar, one file at a time. (Don't ask why. It's a legacy
script. Long story.) We're tweaking this script to use --o_direct when
tarring the file to tape and that seems to be working fine:
# tape device is /dev/nst0
$ tar
