Migrating from mbox to maildir, which converter is compatible with dovecot
Hi,
I'm testing/debuging the migration from mbox to maildir in a mailserver
running Dovecot 1.0alpha5.
I migrated all 472715 emails(in a test server) and later noted that dovecot
could not get the same flags/status of the emails as in the mbox.
I was using perfect_maildir.pl and I think its not dovecot fault. Seems
to me that perfect_maildir.pl convert the emails in a way that dovecot

converting maildir to mailbox
Hi all!
There is a script to convert maildir to mailbox in wiki:
http://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/MailFormat
but it doesn't convert any message flags (seen e.t.c.).
I wrote a script, which converts most flags and labels:
https://bitbucket.org/citrin/scripts/src/tip/dovecot-maildir2mbox.pl
It doesn't convert recent flag and UIDs though, because it was not
necessary in my case.
Do you

having hell of the time converting away from UW
I just want to check and make sure not missing anything.
I'm trying to convert a customer away from UW. unfortunately, all of
the mailboxes are in MBX format (my own mistake coming back to haunt me).
mailutil doesn't seem to do conversions properly. It keeps complaining
about an existing copy of /mbox and only if I say to -merge append will
the copy proceed.
mailsync doesn't

dovecot rpms, .subscriptions file, mbox to maildir
...th capitalization (Sent, Deleted Messages, etc.) and one without
(sent-mail, etc. - these were from our pine days). Is this due to web mail?
Also, if I do need to convert from mbox to Maildir, what is the standard
tool for doing that? I saw at least three different tools/scripts for
doing that (mbox2maildir,mb2d,mb2md-2,mb2md.pl, .. ). Which tool (and
from where) should I use to convert mailboxes without problems?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Saurabh.

I think the reason we're still using mbox is for historical reasons -
these mailboxes are decades old.
Should I investigate an mbox2maildir conversion? Can I be sure it will
do it properly?
Thanks,
Alex

Mixing MBOX and Maildir?
Is it possible to have some folders be mbox and some be maildir format?
Why you might ask? Sometime for diagnostics I have the Exim MTA archive
certain messages in MBOX format and then I want to copy them into an
imao folder to look at them with Thunderbird. When I used MBOX all I had
to do was copy the file into a folder and it worked. So what I'd like to
do is have a folder with a

Shared folders using mbox format
Hi,
I'd like to create a shared folder to be used with an Outlook client
and a Thunderbird client. We're currently using mboxes.
I've read the documentation here about creating a shared folder:
https://wiki.dovecot.org/SharedMailboxes/Shared
It doesn't make reference to how to do this using mbox format. Is it
possible? Should we convert to Maildir? Perhaps there's a way to

Dovecot can do the conversion itself, there is documentation in the Wiki
about this, for example https://wiki.dovecot.org/Migration/MailFormat
In the end, it boils down to something like this:
$ doveadm -D -v -o backup -u sven sdbox:~/sdbox...
