...ing - it froze up a few more times
before I got a handle on it.
Basically, the box runs idle but refuses to do disk IO, or does it
-very- slowly.
Top shows processes stuck in 'ffsvget', 'inode', and 'vlruwk' state.
I can get the box responsive again by setting sysctl
kern.maxvnods=100000. It starts up with kern.maxnodes=36079. I don't
know yet if this is a 'fix' - I wanted to send this mail out before
the box froze again.
I can reliably get the box in to this state by doing 'find /'. I do
have a lot of files on the disk, and a things like squid and po...

kernel deadlock
We have a reproducible problem with FreeBSD-4.7 which is apparently a
deadlock.
The system is undergoing a filesystem stress test.
The machine is pingable, but console and most other features are
unresponsive.
The console debugger can be accessed.
The following information is available with db's "ps".
I suspect the wchan of "inode" to be what everything is waiting on.

status of autotuning freebsd for 9.2
Andre,
Are you going to have time to MFC things from -current for auto-tuning
-stable before 9.2?
I fear (maybe unnecessarily?) that we are about to ship yet another
release that can't do basic 10gigE when sufficient memory exists.
If you don't have time, then let me know and I'll see what I can do.

PATCH: Forcible delaying of UFS (soft)updates
Here's a patch against 4.8-RELEASE kernel that allows disk writes on
softupdates-enabled filesystems to be delayed for (theoretically)
arbitrarily long periods of time. The motivation for such updating
policy is surprisingly not purely suicidal - it can allow disks on
laptops to spin down immediately after I/O operations and stay idle for
longer periods of time, thus saving considerable amount

[SO]HO Software RAID5 server: which implementation should I choice?
Hello, freebsd-stable.
Does somebody use some software RAID5 on FreeBSD in real production
system?
I want to build storage server for my home: RAW photos, multi-layer
PhotoShop files and FLAC-encoded music consume a lot of space, and
they should be availible both from desktop & notebook.
Also, all photo-content is unique, so I need some insuranse from
single HDD crash. I understand,

powerd not behaving with an Asus A8V-MX and Athlon 64 X2 3800+
I have an Asus A8V-MX motherboard with an AMD Athlong 64 X2 3800+ CPU
and I'm trying to run powerd to keep it cooler/quieter/greener.
I'm running -STABLE (6.1-RC) cvsup'ed a couple of days ago, with a
kernel config that consists of the SMP sample plus an atapicam
device.
I'm loading the cpufreq.ko module in /boot/loader.conf.
I've attached my dmesg output and sysctl -a

[Fwd: Re: [Fwd: Re: Still ATAPICAM Lockup/Slowdown]]
Thomas,
Have spoken to Soren, from my bootlog he believes that the problem is in
atapicam causing the system to lock up. He is happy to answer some
questions but doesnt have time to delve into atapicam himself.
Did you author atapicam, I have seen your name on the sourcecode, can
you help me further? Whats next?
Thanks Adam.
