FireWire Security issues
Hello,
looking into the issue described in the advisory below I wonder how to
tackle this issues. Primarily
I ask myself
* is there any reason not to filter all physical memory access by default
* what would be the appropriate way to change the filter set? a sysctl?

Calling R from C - part way there but need a push!
Dear All,
I've read the manual on "Writing R Extensions" and in particular the
part on calling R from C. (Most of the manual is about calling C
from R, not the other way around.)
The good news is that I can now call _some_ R from C, specifically
the R functions which have C header files. However it isn't clear to
me how to call R functions that are written in R. I

ramfs to tmpfs
Hello,
I was using a bunch of cpios in initramfs as a working system, and
wondering why the unused files weren't being paged out to swap.
So I reread ramfs-rootfs-initramfs.txt and now I know.
So I wrote the attached utility. It creates a tmpfs, moves all files
on the initramfs, moves / and executes the real init.
It works, even with hardlinks, but it isn't the correct approach. Have

mount_smbfs: can't get handle to requester (no /dev/nsmb* device)
Hi all !
I have a little problem here mounting or browsing samba shares.
I have a FreeBSD 4.6.2 running samba, and a share on that called public.
when I try to mount that share it asks for password, and then gives an
error:
ex.
libra# mount_smbfs //maxi@samba/public /mnt
Password:
mount_smbfs: can't get handle to requester (no /dev/nsmb* device)
libra#

DOS style 8.3 filename mangling issues??!
Okay, I've run through all of the tests in the DIAGNOSE, which my 1.9.18p1 SAMBA
server (and NT4SP3/W95 clients) pass with flying colours.
server box: Linux 2.0.33, gcc 2.7.2.2, libc 5.4.33, shadow, quota on (usr+grp),
and my smb.conf is summarised (by testparm output) below:
Problem is this: with respect to programs not long filename-aware/compliant,
users cannot "double-click" on
