Horizontally maximized window on last viewport
Hi,
I posted this on the forum as well, but there were no responses to it. I
now posting it here just in case anybody cares.
Anyway, Compiz is a very nice program. Thanks for all the effort you put
into making it.
I am using the latest git version of compiz and it really works great
for being an "unstable" version.
Anyway, I noticed the following strange behavior and was wondering

Maximization of a loglikelihood function with double sums
Dear R experts,
Attached you can find the expression of a loglikelihood function which I
would like to maximize in R.
So far, I have done maximization with the combined use of the
mathematical programming language AMPL (www.ampl.com) and the solver
SNOPT (http://www.sbsi-sol-optimize.com/manuals/SNOPT%20Manual.pdf).
With these tools, maximization is carried out in a few seconds. I wonder
if that

quadratic programming-maximization instead of minization
Hi, I need to maximize a quadratic function under constraints in R.
For minimization I used solve.QP but for maximization it is not useful since
the matrix D of the quadratic function
should be positive definite hence I cannot simply change the sign.
any suggestion ?
thanks

how to select rows per subset in a data frame that are max. w.r.t. a column
Hi,
I'd like to select one row in a data frame per subset which is maximal for a
particular value. I'm pretty close to the solution in the sense that I can
easily select the maximal values per subset using "aggregate", but I can't
really figure out how to select the rows in the original data frame that are
associated with these maximal values.

how to automatically maximize the graph window (under XP) ?
Hello,
I'm trying to produce graphs automatically from data stored in database.
Before saving the graphs, I would like to maximize the size of the graphs.
The best would be to directly open maximized windows with x11() but up to
now I failed doing it.
I tried different widths and heighs but I never managed to obtain a full
screen window.
Is there a command to do it ?
Thanks in advance,

Multi-objective optimization
Dear All,
Is there any package to do multi-objective optimization? For instance,
consider the following problem:
maximize f(x,y) in order to x
and
maximize g(x,y) in order to y,
simultaneously, with x and y being the same both for f and g. Can R do
it numerically?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

Nouveau doesn't use the maximal resolution of my screen and GPU
Hi everybody,
I'm using Lubuntu 14.04 on an old desktop PC with a NVIDIA GeForce 7600
GS and a screen of 19 inches.
The maximal resolution of my screen with Nvidia drivers is 1280x1024.
(In particular, I use the Nvidia 331.89 driver)
With Nouveau driver, the maximal resolution falls to 1024x768.
Is there a solution for increasing the maximum resolution with Nouveau ?
Best regards,

Maximization problem in the optim function
Dear R Users
I am maximizing a user defined log likelihood function. It includes variance
parameter (sigma). I used R function optim with BFGS maximization method.
However, it stops before the solution saying ?sqrt(sigma): NaNs produced?
Could anybody know a proper transformation for sigma which can be passed in
the function? For the correlation parameter I used Fishers? transformation
so it

Maximized windows dissappear
Hi,
I am using the lastest git version of compiz and just run in to a new
problem after switching to using the ini configuration plugin over the
gconf-one. When I maximize a window and then try to move it to another
viewport, the cube rotates but the maximized window disappears instead
of moving along to the new viewport. The maximized window can be found
using the scale plugin (only on show-all

Wine window not maximizing in Mac OS X
I recently got a new macbook pro 13", 2.4 Ghz, running Mac OS X 10.6.3.
I am having trouble maximizing the Wine Desktop window that opens when I try running applications. It could be possible that the Wine window can't be stretched or made any bigger, but I'm not sure. If I try to make the window bigger by dragging the bottom right corner, the window gets larger, but it just adds a

Quadratic regression: estimating the maximizing value
A bioligist colleague sent me the following data.
x Y
3 1
7 5
14 8
24 0
(Yes, only four data points.) I don't know much about the
application, but apparently there are good empirical
reasons to use a quadratic model.
The goal is to find the X value which maximizes the
response Y, and to find a confidence interval for this X
value.
Finding the maximizing X value is pretty

reordering of matrix rows to maximize the sum of the diagonal
Hi r-help community,
This question isn't so much a syntax/coding one, but here goes:
Let's say I have matrix of arbitrary dimensions and I'd like to
reorder the rows in such a way that I could maximize the sum of the
entries along the diagonal.
For example, for this 3x3 matrix:
[,1] [,2] [,3]
[1,] 3 4 13
[2,] 9 1 2
[3,] 2 11 1
rearranging the rows

MAXIMIZATION WITH CONSTRAINTS

I?m a graduate students and in my master thesis I must
obtain the values of the parameters x_i which maximize this
Multinomial log?likelihood function
log(n!)-sum_{i=1]^4 log(n_i!)+sum_
{i=1}^4 n_i log(x_i)
under the following constraints:
a) sum_i x_i=1,
x_i>=0,
b) x_1<=x_2+x_3+x_4
c)x_2<=x_3+x_4

maximum likelihood problem
I am trying to figure out how to run maximum likelihood in R. Here is my
situation:
I have the following equation:
equation<-(1/LR-(exp(-k*T)*LM)*(1-exp(-k)))
LR, T, and LM are vectors of data. I want to R to change the value of k
to maximize the value of equation.
My attempts at optim and optimize have been unsuccessful. Are these the
recommended functions that I should use to maximize

questions on plotting dedrograms
Hi,
i've two questions concerning the plot of a dendrogram. first, i use
hclust for clustering and if i plot the dendrogram, then the maximal
height is the maximal dissimilarity found in my data. but i want to have
a arbitary maximal height. for example if the maximal dissimilarity in
my data is 50 and i want a height of 100, the plot should be compressed

Looking to maximize a conditional likelihood
I want to maximize a conditional likelihood function that is basically
logistic conditional on the number of successes within strata. What
would be a good starting place for this? A complication is that the
denominator includes a term that is the sum over all permutations.
Although there is no time dimension to the problem, it's possible a
degenerate use of the Cox proportional hazards
