[PATCH] lib: command: switch from select() to poll()
select() has a maximum value for the FDs it can monitor, and since the libguestfs library can be used in other applications, this limit may be hit by users in case lots of FDs are opened. As solution, switch to poll(): it has a slightly better interface to check what changed and for which FD, and it does not have a limit in the value of the FDs monitored. poll() is supported on the platforms we

Sys.sleep() burns up CPU on Solaris 8
I noticed that R was burning up 100% of a CPU when a call to Sys.sleep() was made. Upon investigation, I discovered that R_checkActivityEx() in src/unix/sys-std.c was putting the entire timeout (in usec) into the struct timeval tv_usec member, leaving tv_sec set to 0. I don't know about other unix variants, but Solaris requires that the timeout value be normalized (i.e. 0 <= tv_usec

ssh-keyscan continuity patch --
I apologize, this patch should have been sent awhile ago. Between a lot of things that needed to be completed at work as a sysadmin for the Research Computing group at Purdue University and retiring from work after 38 years at the end of May (2012), I basically ignored it. This patch is from a clone of my workstation that I just activated at home. The patch was primarily written to fix the

Updated ssh-keyscan patch for ssh2 support
In the past 2 months another change occurred in the CVS code that broke my ssh-keyscan patch. Here's an updated version that tweaks the changed name (in the Kex struct) and also causes an attempt to grab an ssh2 key from an older server (without ssh2 support) to fail earlier and without an error message (Stuart Pearlman emailed me some code for this). This patch is based on the BSD CVS

bug in ssh-keyscan.c --
===== Ladies/Gents, "ssh-keyscan.c" can't be linked statically against "libssh.a". You end up with `fatal()' being doubly defined. The patch below deletes the new "ssh-keyscan.c:fatal()" function and and restores the "ssh-keyscan.c:fatal_callback()" function with modifi- cations. The problem that both attempt to alleviate is the setting of the

openssh-2.9p1
Hi, 1. I think you should apply the attached patch to openssh-2.9p1, otherwise ssh-keyscan on linux boxes with glibc-2.1 will experience enormous timeout delays. 2. Is there a program like ssh-keyscan for the Version2 (dsa and rsa) keys?? regards Peter Breitenlohner <peb at mppmu.mpg.de> -------------- next part -------------- diff -ur openssh-2.9p1.orig/ssh-keyscan.c

error in parallel:::sendMaster
Hi all, With the help of Tomas, I was able to track the issue down: Prior to R v3.6.0 the parallel package passes an uninitialized variable as the file descriptor argument to the close system call. In my particular R session this uninitialized variable (reproducibly) was holding the value 7, which corresponded to the file descriptor of the write end of the pipe the second child would use to

Instrumentation for metrics
> This makes me think that the syslog approach is probably the way to go Yeah, right. Another idea is to mirror the current preauth load via setproctitle()... That makes that data accessible even without a syscall (at least the writing of the data - quering needs syscalls, right), so that can be kept up-to-date and allows a high monitoring frequency as well. Multiple instances of SSHd (on

Re: [nut-commits] svn commit r731
Hi Arjen, in server/upsd.c r731, you moved the call conf_load() from after check_perms() (~ l.1020) to before setupsignals() (~ l.989). The problem is that conf_load() needs to open the ups driver socket, and it assumes that STATEPATH is the current working directory. The directory is only set in l.1016. Therefore, the first attempt to open a socket will always fail. From the user's point of

Also seeing high winbindd CPU usage
I think somebody had a similar problem (also on Solaris), but that thread seemed to die. I've compiled (with Sun Studio cc) and installed samba-3.2.1 on a Solaris 10 x64 box, which is a member of a (Windows Server 2003 controlled) domain. I previously had samba 3.0.28a running on the same machine without any problems. Now winbindd is eating up all of the CPU (on the CPU it's assigned

panic fts_solr for bad attachment
Hi! I use dovecot 2.1.7 on Ubuntu 12.10 with fts_solr und decode2text.sh for indexing attachments. This works great in general. Just for one user there is a problem with an unknown bad attachment. I run "doveadm index -A '*'". After a while I receive: doveadm(xyz): Error: fts_solr: Invalid XML input at line 1: mismatched tag doveadm(xyz): Panic: file solr-connection.c: line
