IBM buying RedHat
...d to something like the AMD EPYC 7601. And then, will everything work smooth on POWER the same way it does on the AMD? POWER seems still not a first preference arch for CentOS, so how would it impact us? Is it smart to add another CPU arch if we still have to run some X86 code, like in our case SAP MaxDB (which is also available for AIX on POWER but not Linux on POWER)? In the end we decided for AMD EPYC but kept the POWER thing in mind. Now that IBM announces the purchase of RedHat it just reminded me that this could become interesting again in the future. Let's see how it goes. Regards, Sim...

Xen3: Network becomes unreachable under load
Hello, we have the problem: We run 7 blades with a xen 3.0.1tha3 configuration (with the patches for debian from debianbase.de), which a is xenisied 2.6.12.6-kernel. Everything runs fine until we start producing heavy load on the network (e.g. multiple clients access our maxdb database), the dom0 and the domU network becomes unreachable (i.e. only every 100th-200th ping gets through). The dom0 network is a standard xen3 network on a broadcom tg3 eth0. For the domU we are using following script: name ="vm_maxdb" kernel = "/vm_kernel/xen-linux-2.6.12....

SDXC and the future of ZFS
Wouldn''t it be great if the opensolaris community creates a fs fzfs (for flash zfs) that could be the the filesystem for SDXC cards? Two main point for this are already there Sun is a member of SD Card Association and the code writting smart on a flash should be there as well with stuff of l2arc. I think that could give the opensolaris a more visiblie/ markting in the IT space and would
