Exporting data from R into an Excel File on Mac
...ssionals, I am currently an intern at the University of Rhode Island and I need to know how to export data from R into an Excel file. As it is my understanding, xlsReadWrite is not available for mac. Is there another package available for mac users to be able to perform this function. logistic regression with repeated measures for species-habitat associations
...=ponds2004, family="binomial") step(newts2004) I'd like to do a holistic analysis for all three years but am unclear how to do logistic regression with repeated measures in R. Also not sure if missing data (from dry ponds) will be a problem. Thanks very much for any advice. Cheers, Maureen [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

distribution for random effects?
...family="binomial") Does R use a binomial distribution in this formulation to model random effects or a normal distribution (in which case the analysis is not binomial at the scale of the experiment)? If the latter, is there a way to specify the distribution for random effects? Thanks, Maureen [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R, joint scaling test, quantitative genetic analysis & sensitivity to model violations
Hi all, This is really a stats question as much as an R question. I'm trying to do a joint scaling test (JST - see below) on some very oddly-distributed data and was wondering if anyone can suggest a good way of dealing with model violations and/or using R to evaluate how sensitive the model is to violations of the normality assumption. Here's a quick explanation of the analysis, the

open(2), but no I/O to large files creates performance hit
I''m seeing a performance anomaly where opening a large file (but doing *no* I/O to it) seems to cause (or correlates to) a significant performance hit on a mirrored ZFS filesystem. Unintuitively, if I disable zfs_prefetch_disable, I don''t see the performance degradation. It doesn''t make sense that this would help unless there is some cache/VM pollution resulting
