Help about CMS - newbie in RoR
Hi team, I''m a very newbie RoR user from Spain and I''m developing a blog''s CMS. Why RoR?, coz I think it''s an amazing framework with many posibilities, portable and really powerful, with a young and optimist community, and taking my project I''ve prefered his structure in front of LAMP. Another thing is that I''ve liked to surprise my masters

Samba3 on multiple networks, how to make it hand out the correct IP?
Hi, My Samba 4.1.x server is connected to two networks, one in the 192.168.* range (wired) and one in the 10.* range (wifi). The clients on either network normally cannot reach each other. I noticed Samba hands out (eg: for dcname.company.net) it's IP's from both ranges to clients on both sides. So the 192.168.* clients get two A records: 192.168.1.1 & 10.0.0.2. I noticed that,

codepage-conversion for smbclient
Hi list, I've browsed through the archives, but I didn't find a answer for this: I use smbclient to access a windowsNT 4.0 server. I get only '?' for filenames which contains Umlauts. F.e., a file called "Verkn?pfung" is displayed as "Verkn?pfung". I use following mount-string: mount.smbfs //SERVER/Share /home/xxx -o rw noexec nosuid nodev user codepage

'document has been locked for editing by another user' - medium latency / limited bw connection issues?
Hi, I hope some of you have been in a similar situation and can shed some light on this: I have a VPN connection to a Samba 4.1.4 server and when I use Word 2010 on a W7 client to open an existing file I often get the following error: "document.docx has been locked for editing by another user." I should clarify that the document is not in use by anyone (confirmed by smbstatus), and

PDC Problems...
Hi all, I've looked through the archives and I can't seem to find a solution, so here's my problem. I have three Win2k clients and one Samba server which I set up as a PDC (or at least I thought so.) The domain is "THEMOLE" yet when I try to join the domain from the clients it says; "The following error occured validaing the name "THEMOLE" The specified

Samba 4 + Windows XP very slow - especially noticeable with many files
Hi, After our upgrade from Samba 3.x to 4.1.6 we are having major performance issues. Today, I've been able to nail it down to a simple test case. What strikes me is that Windows XP takes about 25 seconds for one job, while it only costs 3 seconds on Windows 7. I have two tests: 1000 files of 10k each (total ~10Mb): * Linux on localhost or a remote host (1GE or 10GE): 5.5 seconds *

recreate/re-provision DNS db from scratch?
Hi, Is there a way to re-initialize/re-provision DNS? I have a working domain with 100+ users and computers etc.. I want to preserve all those users, settings and group policies etc, only start the DNS part from scratch. Why? I've been having some (mysterious) issues with Samba 4 DNS since.. well.. I suppose since I started with 4.0.6 (migrated from Samba 3.x) but from a users' point of

how to remove an (offline) DC from Samba 4 ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA256 Hi all, What would be the recommended way to remove an old offline DC from Samba4? I searched in samba-tool for a way to do this, but didn't find any. Tried using the Windows tools to manage AD Users & Computers -> Domain Controllers -> The DC & then hit delete, however this gives an error 'cannot find specified module'.

biometric device or smartcard with Samba 4.x
Hi all, I was just wondering if any of you are using biometric devices (eg: a fingerprint reader) or smartcards with Samba4 for network logon. Either as a replacement for a password or 'extra' as a 2nd factor. Would be interested in hearing experiences regarding this. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Bram. -- Bram Matthys Software developer/IT consultant

add Samba 4 to existing classic NT4 domain (and upgrade to AD)
Hi, We currently have this setup (inherited from my predecessor): Samba 3.2.x domain with custom (mysql) passdb backend. This means the passdb *.tdb files are not being updated and all is retrieved & stored in MySQL. I would like to migrate this to a 'regular' Samba 4.x setup with AD Since the *.tdb files are not updated, I cannot copy the *.tdb files and go the classicupgrade

Installing on partitionable RAID arrays
Hello Since linux 2.6, the md layer has a feature called partitionable arrays. So instead of having two disks, creating an identical partition table on both and then putting those partitions in RAID 1, you take those two disks and put them in one partitionable RAID 1 array (in mdadm terms, "mdp") and create a partition table on the new RAID device. The advantages are quite clear

win 2000 - samba unix mount
Happy new year samba supporters!! I am new to samba. I am a UNIX admin and no little of MS shares. I am trying to use samba to mount/share my unix home dir on my pc running win 2000 pro. The samba server is running and I can smbclient to my user id successfully on the server. I have tried security user AND share. Either way, when I try mapping network drive on pc, specify user and password I get

Could somebody please explain just how one is supposed to set up samba users, groups and passwords so connections can be established to Win2k clients to connect to FBSD samba server for file sharing and to use cups for printing. I am afraid that the manuals and config files and various examples I have found on the Internet are quite confusing. How is the Windows username/passord related to
